smoothsailing Kerry finally signs on Published May 27, 2005 Better late than never was our reaction to Joan Vennochi's Boston Globe c olumn on Tuesday. Jo hn Kerry has signed the form authorizing the Defense Department to relea se his military records. Somewhere, John O'Neill and his fellow Swift Bo at veterans are doubtless smiling. After a few weeks went by, conservative Web pundits jokingly began tra cking the days since the senator's promise. The "clock" had reached 114 days before the Boston Globe confirmed that Mr Kerry had actually signe d the form on May 20. According to a Kerry spok esman, the form is currently in the hands of the Navy, where it will be processed before being passed to the National Personnel Records Center. Presumably, then, in the next couple months the public will have a bette r understanding of whether the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth were a bunc h of liars, as Mr Kerry claims, or not. Despite the political points to be gained, it's a question that will ser ve historians well. Many on the left have derided the Swift vets as mere political operatives who shamelessly vilified a presidential candidate' s war record. The vets argue that Mr Kerry's real Vietnam service was s o contrary to what he had for years used to advance his public career th at it disqualified him for the presidency. Reasonable people can disagree on this, but fundamental questions about presidential politics were raised.
View Replies To: smoothsailing Why do I see some "security" reason preventing the release of these recor ds? Ala the guy who donated to the Clinton campaign who released the Wei nberger indictment on the eve of the '92 election, some Kerry insider wi ll black out substantial portions of this for reasons of national securi ty. I know all of the records, complete and unaltered, will soon be made available. And they will disprove all of the Swift Boat Vet s allegations. Of course, then he will be asked why he didn't just relea se them during the election. Yeah, all the records, completely answering all questions.
View Replies To: smoothsailing File this next to 'Red-faced Bubba Clinton goes nuclear in deposition'. Kerry would NEVER have signed the 180 if ANYTHING it revealed were the sl ightest bit embarrassing to him. If there WAS damaging info, it's gone now, or he NEVER would have signed the 180.
"According to a Kerry spokesman, the form is currently in the hands of th e Navy, where it will be processed before being passed to the National P ersonnel Records Center." The fact is you do not submit the 180 to the Navy, you submit it to the N PRC.
View Replies To: ProudVet77 So- he signed it, and then turned it into the wrong people. Who will then give it back to him, and he will throw his hands up and claim he did ev erything he can...
View Replies To: smoothsailing We'll have to see if he actually had the guts to release them "complete a nd unaltered, including military medical records," which is what the Swi ftees asked in their letter to him dated May 4th, 2004.
story=20040629220813 790 "Specifically, we the undersigned formally request that you authorize the Department of the Navy to independently release your military records ( through your execution of Standard Form 180), complete and unaltered, in cluding your military medical records."
View Replies To: REDWOOD99 He said earlier that he will get the documents and decide what to release . He basically signed a form authorizing the Navy to send HIM the docume nts.
View Replies To: REDWOOD99 Does signing the 180 mean the docs are ALL public info? Or does he get them all and then deci de which to release? Apparently he signed them in such a way as to specify that he gets them f irst, then he will release them.
and I can assure you that, from my perspective, the Kerry Books will most assuredly be cooked. The Naval Secretariat will be under enormous pressure to ensure the Frog' s records are as pristine as possible, considering his pathetically shor t combat tour. Accordingly, I would be very surprised if Carter and Company had not alre ady (with Naval help, of course) had not torqued the records to a major degree.
All Whoever in the US Senate that gave Hanoi Kerry a Top Secret Clearance HAS seen all his military records. His most recent one who have been in the spring/summer of '04 when he won the dims's nomination against President Bush. NO ONE gets a Top Secret Clearance WITHOUT agreeing to have all your reco rds released. OR pass a FULL FBI check when someone runs for the highest elected office in th ecountry.
View Replies To: Carling That was my thought as well- some data has been inked out, considering an y of this gets processed at all. I also believe that Kerry is running ag ain and Hillary would out this stuff in a primary to knock him out, so b etter take a chance and deal with his less than honorable discharge now.
View Replies To: REDWOOD99 Does signing the 180 mean the docs are ALL public info? Actually a form 180, allows on to specify who get the docs. It'll be interesting to see whether or not Kerry opened the records for t he public as a whole, or just some selected individual or group.
View Replies To: smoothsailing "McVain left the "deal" press conference early so he could see an early s creening of a movie about himself. And yes, that is the title of a real, non-porn, movie, BTW.
View Replies To: All You guys missed the article then about his so called signing of the 180. No one actually kno ws if he even signed it but we do know he hasn't sent it in. He said tha t his staff was going to look it over first and go through it, make sure everything was ok. Don't hold your breath waiting for any documents to be forth comming.
View Replies To: smoothsailing The only reason I can think of for Kerry to sign it now is that finally, an operative in the Dim party has stuffed the incriminating pages into h is socks and down his pants. I will really be surprised if the record tu rns out to be complete. I have no doubts there could be a DemonRat suppo rter in the records dept.
View Replies To: smoothsailing I thought he had signed the 180--he just hadn't sent it in. Remember, one has to be specific when one deals with liars and thieves.
