5/23 Does WinXP or Win2000 have a built-in "take a screenshot" function?
\_ PrtScn copies whole screen to clipboard as BMP.
           Alt-PrtScn copies currently focused window.
Interestingly it doesn't work with DVDs.
\_ Probably your DVDs are being played using hardware overlay and
that is bypassing Window's regular window-drawing system. Try
to go into your DVD software and disable hardware overlay (though
              you'll take a perfomance hit).
\_ Not just DVDs. Any video you play that uses hardware
              acceleration and a video overlay.
           \_ Thanks.

9/21 are you guys really all using win7 in some way now?
\_ Yes. In my company, we have upgraded all our machines for
development, QA and other office use (HR, Finance, Receptions, etc.)
from WinXP to Win7 a few months ago. Our products now primarily
support Win7/Win2008 and secondarily support WinXP/Win2003.

4/28 Win 3.1 was more widely adopted than Win 3.0. Win XP (5.1) was more
widely adopted than Win 2k (5.0). Now it looks like Win 7 (6.1) is
going to be more widely adopted than Vista (6.0). Is this a trend on
        Microsoft x.0 versions being bad?

8/3 VMWare + Windows XP + Validation question. I need to test stuff with
Service Pack 3 installed. I have a valid key that I own (yeah yeah I
actually *bought* a copy, please don't flame me for supporting evil

for testing purposes? Will Windows or Microsoft detect copies and

7/28 Does it make sense to defragment disks on VMWare? My 80GB disk
on VMWare isn't really using 80GB, it just uses what it needs.
Will defragment do anything to it?
\_ If you want to speed up disk operation in your VM, it's best to
defragment the disks in your VM, then defragment the disk on your
host machine where the VM files are.

11/29 I'm experimenting with virtualization, and as a poor college student
I'm wondering what the best alternatives for virtualization are, and

4/2 Is there an interpreted version of C or C++ that can be used for
educational purposes? It doesn't have to be full-featured or
strictly adhere to the standards, but it's painful for students
to change a variable in a for loop and then wait for a compile

6/3 I find myself having to reinstall WinXP sp2 every 1 to 1.5 year
due to sluggishness and problems (yes I've tried every single
trick that you can Google for). I'm at a point where I think I

4/7 Dear VMWare users. I just want to post this because I spent an
entire day trying to find out why my Ubuntu 2.6.18 has a serious
time drift problem on host WinXP Pro. The problem is that even
when you run vmware-tools and sync the time between your VM and
your host, there is still a delay-- vmware-tools syncs every once
in a while, and since my VM is so slow it doesn't catch up and
