5/16 Netgear Storage Central, at $129 it seems like a good deal
for a home network file server:

\_ Google NSLU2. It runs Linux, I have one and I spool media to

It also acts fine as NAS. The advantage over the NetGear is
that it's a Linux server. The downside is you supply your own
                external USB drives. -ax

7/10 My girlfriend downloaded music from iTunes onto another computer,
which we do not have access to anymore. Apple has record of the
purchases through the "Purchase History" option, but their policy
is that you can only download once. I never realized that. WTF?!
Why would they have such a policy when they clearly know what she

3/15 Hey motd -- I'm pretty clueless about audio stuff: I have a handful
of CD's that I'd like to rip into decent quality MP3's. Can anybody
recommend a reasonable freeware software package for win2k to help
me with this? Any help would be much appreciated. TIA! -mice

Instructions: 1 Plug the drive into a windows PC, format it, and run the included one -touch utilities. Since the NSLU2 doesn't do power management, this is the only way to allow the drive to power down when not in use. Change any settings you like (server name, password, etc) and format the hard drive. The NSLU2 Linux site , specifically the "SourceForge Files Area" link. When you've flashed successfully, make sure that the NSLU2 still works correctly, that you can still read/write the disk 7 Unplug the hard disk and reboot the NSLU2. In order for the next step to work correctly, it can't have a drive attached. Plug the drive back into the NSLU2 and wait for a minute or two for i t to be mounted, which you can monitor on the web interface. Again check and make sure the NSLU2 is working as expected. ipk build of mt-daapd from the link above, and t hen copy it to your DISK 1 share on the NSLU2. ipk is the specific filename of the distribution you downloaded.
