\_ Gee, I just installed 1.0.1 three days ago.
\_ Is it becoming another IE which needs constant patching?

5/18 On my Win7 machine, I've been using a PuTTY ssh session to soda as a
proxy for my FireFox to bypass my company's OpenDNS when I visit
http://tv.yahoo.com and so on. It has been working fine for a long while.
However, in the past couple weeks or so, my FireFox would either take
several minutes to load the page, or failes to load it after several
minutes. I haven't changed any settings on my Win7 machine. Rebooting

4/19 My Firefox 3.6.28 pops up a Software Update box that reads "Your
version of Firefox will soon be vulnerable to online attacks." Are
they planning to turn off some security feature in my version of
        Firefox?
\_ Not as such, no, but they're no longer developing this version,
so if a 3.6.x-targeted hack shows up, you're not going to get

2/5 How is Firefox on version 10, while I still have 3.6 installed.
I wait for the X.1 versions and they never come out.
\_ I'm also on 3.6.26. It claims that versions 4 - 10 are all faster
than 3.6.x, but do they use more memory? Thx.
\_ Newer Firefox versions use less memory too:

Android TCL scripting framework that was used for automating
and controlling desktop apps (like mozilla for example). Thx.

2/18 Why is there now Firefox 3.5.8 when there was already 3.6 a month ago?
\_ Why is there Windows XP SP3 when there was already Vista?
Generally companies manage patches for at least two levels of
           product. -tom
\_ I see. So Fx 3.6 is more like a new version than an update to

2/5 I like Adobe Flash. When written correctly, it scales along
with your browser size. It looks consistent on every single
browser. It is predictable. On the other hand, I'm not a big
fan of CSS/HTML, which for the most part, look wildly different
between browsers, and don't even work consistently or
correctly at times. So why do so many people (like Steve Jobs)

You can remove the old "Phoenix" folder at your leisure. Extensions and Themes When you upgrade to a new version of Firefox all of your Extensions and T hemes will be disabled until Firefox determines that either a) they are compatible with the new release or b) there are newer versions available that are compatible. This is because Firefox changes from release to re lease and as such the ways in which some extensions integrate changes, m eaning there can be problems when running an older extension with a newe r version of Firefox. Known Issues This list covers some of the known problems with Firefox 10 Please read this before reporting any new bugs, and watch it regularly (we'll updat e it as new bugs are found in the release). If this is not done, when a user without write access to the install location attempts to start Firefox, they will not have sufficient privileges to allow Firefox to generate the initial startup files it needs to. This is not an issue, but it may appear to be one (hence its listing here). " This function was disabled at the last minute due to problems we were experiencing with it, so ignore this section of Help. Windows * When installing as a restricted access user on a shared machine into a location that you can write to, there may still be negative side effects (default browser/other keys not being set correctly). When installing as a restricted access user do not attempt to install over an installation in a restricted-access/shared location as this may destroy that installation. To break Firefox out of this loop, open a Terminal and type "killall firefox-bin" and press enter. Install Firefox to a location you have write access to and try again. When installing on a multi- user limited access system, install it into a shared location as administrator, run it once and then all users should be able to access it. Any toolbar customizations you have made or window placement will be lost Linux and Unix systems * If Firefox is installed to a location with spaces in the path, Firefo x may not be able to set itself as Default browser and may keep prompting at startup. The work around is to install into a path without spaces. autoreg The next time you start Firefox, GNOME integration should be functional. Web Page Rendering * Firefox is powered by the same Gecko layout engine as other Mozilla s oftware. If you encounter a problem with a website that does not correctly display then it is usually a problem with Gecko, not Firefox itself. The Configuration Console (accessed by entering "about:config" in the Loc ation bar and pressing Enter) gives advanced/experienced users direct co ntrol over Firefox's preferences. This system is for use by people who k now what they are doing only, by changing a value incorrectly you may da mage or destroy your Firefox installation! Look to Help sites for handy preferences to tweak to customize Firefox further. Troubleshooting * Poorly designed or incompatible Extensions can cause problems with yo ur browser, including make it crash, slow down page display, etc. If you encounter strange problems relating to parts of the browser no longer working, the browser not starting, windows with strange or distorted appearance, degraded performance, etc, you may be suffering from Extension or Theme trouble. Disable the Extension/Theme that is causing trouble and then start normally. you installed it from a web page) and then wish to install it for al l user profiles using the -install-global-extension command line flag, y ou must restart the browser once to cleanse the profile extensions datas ource of traces of that extension before installing with the switch. If you do not do this you may end up with a jammed entry in the Extensions list and will be unable to install the extension globally. If you encounter strange problems relating to bookmarks, downloads, windo w placement, toolbars, history, or other settings, it is recommended tha t you try creating a new profile and attempting to reproduce the problem before filing bugs. Migrate your settings files (Bookmarks, Saved P asswords, etc) over one by one, checking each time to see if the problem s resurface. If you do find a particular profile data file is causing a problem, file a bug and attach the file. Make it your mission to convert as many of your friends, family members and coworkers as possible. If you're a student, get it distributed at your college.
