3/18 What's the best way to see if a certain kind of memory will work on
        a Mac? I'm looking at
                http://slickdeals.net/#p5870
and want to know if it'll work on my sister's iBook or my PowerBook.
        TIA.
        \_ http://www.kingston.com
\_ http://www.crucial.com Kingston memory that was supposed to
work in my G5 Tower most spectacularly did not. Crucial matched
with the right memory at reasonable prices, and now I'm
              cooking with fire.

        \_ $29 for existing users.

So what happened to all those "G4 chips kick intel butt" folks?
        \_ 2 generations of cpus
\_ They are also introducing a Intel iMac. Does that mean the
G5 will be phase out? What I really want is a Intel MacMini.

11/9 What do you do when the OSX disk utility (booted from CD) fails
to repair your primary startup disk and gives you the error:
"Invalid B-tree node size"? This is an iMac G5 and it cannot boot
from the Macintosh HD. Any recommendations for data recovery?
        \_ DiskWarrior

7/26 My wife uses NJStar on Windoze, but is thinking of changing to the
Mac;however, entering text in traditional chinese is a pain. Is
there an input method for OS X that is similar to that used by
        NJStar? tia.
\_ yes. OSX comes w/ builtin language support for typing chinese.

7/1 Need recommendations on a graphics cards for new G5 PowerMacs. Ideally,
the video card would support 3+ monitors, and be able to support one
monitor @ 10-bit resolution. If no card does both, recommendations
for good cards that do either is also appreciated. -nivra

6/27 For anyone who's owned a G5 running OS X (10.3 or 10.4), how often do
you need to reboot if it's being used as a workstation?
\_ Occasionally you will run into the Windows NT syndrome of the system
needing a reboot for a system software patch - I'd say about once
every couple of months on a stable release, and once or twice a
month on a new one. Other than that, I have never seen a piece of

6/24 Has anyone else had experience with FedEx's relatively new "Ground"
service? I ordered a brand new dual G5 from Apple which just vanished
into thin air after leaving a Sacramento facility the evening before
it was supposed to arrive. So far FedEx Ground seems to have no idea
what happened to it, and all they do when I call customer service is
tell me they are putting a "tracer" on it and that they will "call

6/22 When I burn an iso image using the "Disk Utility" in OS X (Tiger)
and I then use readcd on a linux box to verify the md5sum of the
burned cd, the md5sum of the CD doesn't match the md5sum of the
origional iso file. Is OS X modifying the iso image before it
burns it or something? Seems strange.

about a switch to intel. Now I'll just sit tight and see what
comes out. Anybody else doing the same? I'm wondering if I'll
be able to run windows on a intel-based powerbook (so that I don't
