3/17 Why doesn't Amazon show customer reviews for Michael Jackson albums?
        \_ Guess.
\_ Wow! Good catch, that's BIZARRE!
\_ This CD box set still has customer reviews: http://tinyurl.com/48zef
\_ You like Michael Jackson's songs?
\_ It's just funny how they don't allow customer reviews for his
stuff... I guess they must have turned into trollfests but
that CD box set one looks reasonable. What other thing does
Amazon exclude from reviews? I don't know of any. As for MJ,
well, not that I listen to a lot of pop but the early stuff was
good pop to say the least. It's kind of nostalgic. When I imagine
certain old MJ songs I get an image in my mind of times when I
was like 7 years old on vacation etc. and heard the songs...
\_ Actually, it looks like there are reviews for some of his
albums, maybe for the other ones no one has bothered:
           http://tinyurl.com/6kjrj
\_ I heard there was an issue when Jay Leno made MJ jokes. Is there
           a court injunction/gag order?
\_ That's only if you have been subpeoned(sp?) in the case, as
              Leno was.
\_ I don't get this. Jay Leno is an employee of NBC. He didn't
write the jokes, his script-writers did. NBC scripted MJ
jokes, NBC filmed the jokes, NBC aired the jokes. Why is the
blame on Leno instead of NBC?
\_ A subpoened witness is speaking in public about a defendant
in a criminal case. It's pretty hard to seperate out what
part is recitation of lines, and what part is off-the-cuff
                    commentary.

4/20 JOTD: What's the difference between Michael Jackson and acne?
\_ I got rid of acne after highschool ten years ago, but still have
to hear about Jackson because of ass clowns like you. That's the
             difference.
\_ None. Both MJ and acne make kids put cream on their faces.

02/02 it wasn't Janet Jackson but Michael in disguise!
\_ Now you're just trying to hurt my feelings.
\_ I don't think there's enough makeup or surgery in the world to
turn a guy like MJ into a black person of either sex.

11/19 Oh great. Arrest warrant issued for Michael Jackson. So much for
hearing any real news for awhile.
        http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/11/19/jackson.ranch/index.html
\_ Yeah because it's more important that you can get "real" news than
the fate of the boys he's been raping. Without media attention
forcing the government's hand, he'll never be stopped.

Yes Michael Jackson has had a few too many 'Greatest Hits' packages, but this one truly is the Ultimate collection of his musical work. Four CDs jam packed with hits and rarities spanning his entire 34 year recording career (J5, The Jacksons and solo), a DVD of his Dangerous concert that aired on HBO (available here for the first time) and an original 60 page book detailing his entire career. There's precious little more you coul d ask for from a box set. Now Michael has only released 6 full albums of new material in the past 2 5 years so chances are that most already have the hits in one form or an other so why buy this set? Consider the following list of all the rare a nd previously unreleased songs in this collection. These 22 tracks alone (a full album of material) make this set worth the purchase for any MJ fan. It's surprisi ng that these demos and completed songs never saw the light of day until now considering the high caliber of the work. If this is any indication of the songs MJ has in the vault, I'd love to hear more - lots more. No matter if you only have one or two MJ CDs, are a rabid fan or are just interested in finding out what al the fuss is about, this is the set fo r you. Sony did an amazing job with this set and Michael (a real perfect ionist) should be commended for his bravery in releasing demos. I look f orward to hearing many more of these previously unheard recordings. The market's been flooded with Michael Jackson product in the last year - - I don't even have any idea what that "The One" DVD was all about. I'll let the general public make up its own theories as to why. Its bizarre timing aside, this boxed set was long overdue. Jackson's music was so d ominant in its own time that it now sounds somewhat dated. There's a rea son why The Eagles's Greatest Hits record surpassed Thriller's sales in the US: We are so familiar with Jackson's music that we now rarely she ll out the bucks to buy it. That, however, is not to be counted as a neg ative towards the music itself. it's immaculate, immensely enjoyable, catchy and commercial pop/R&B /dance music. And with the exception of the songs from the weak Invincib le album (the first Jackson record not to score a number-one single), yo u're still guaranteed to pack a dance floor whenever you put these songs on. This boxed set does right to the Jackson catalogue by including his Motown years, and while those have been covered amply in the many Jacks on 5/Jacksons collections over the years, to have a "comprehensive" Mich ael Jackson boxed set without this material would have been sacrilegious . That leaves the fifth disc, the DVD of a live concert in Bucharest. The c oncert disc is flawed -- I like neither the shooting nor the editing, an d it contains far too many audience shots. If I never have to see a Mich ael Jackson fan cry or faint on camera again, it would be too soon. But the concert disc is an incredibly fascinating case study in the midst of that Ashlee Simpson lip-sync scandal. I've never been to a Jackson conc ert, so I was very surprised to find that he does sing live -- just not all the time. The fact is, as early as the Motown anniversary special th at had made Jackson into a legend, Jackson always gave a better show whe n he doesn't have to sing. However, it's even more illuminating when Jac kson does attempt to sing live. and remarkably hu man, letting us poke through that artificial, perfectionist showman exte rior to see a fallible artist doing his best. I always wished Jackson wo uld allow more of this side of himself to show -- to humanize his music and persona, and let the flaws be. On this DVD, which was filmed during the Dangerous tour, you get a chance to see Michael Jackson's more ragge d edges, and that is simply invaluable. Batten's laser-lit guitar solo in "Beat It" is so over the top, it's perfect, even though the shaky editing ate into its effect. If you're a Jackson fan, you probably would have bought this already and will like it. If not, however, this is still a good chance to snap up a large number of Jackson classics in one go. The concert DVD is also grea t if you've never seen a Jackson "live" performance, though Jackson stage shows have been captured far better in previous video clips like "Dirty Diana" and, even more so, "Come Together". And given the low price tag on this five-disc box, from a value-for-money front, this boxed set real ly can't be topped. See all my revi ews This box set happens to include many of MJ's hits and big numbers like "R ock With You", "Beat It", "Billie Jean", and "Black and White." It also includes some rarities and cuts not heard before. The problem I have wit h the disc is the number of songs that are missing. It's missing quite a few of the hits that Mi chael has put out there, and for that reason I have to deduct one star f rom this otherwise perfect set of music. See all my reviews Well, it started in 1995, when Michael released HIStory: Past, Present, & Future-Book 1 It was a double album which consisted one disc with 15 h its and the other disc being a new album. The problem with that compilat ion was that the new album was overbloated with ego, anger, childhood is sues, and depression. The collection, as a whole, was flooded with overindulgence and flaws. Then, in 2003, Micha el released another compilation, Number Ones, which consisted 18 of his #1 hits. The problems with that collection was that most of the tracks w ere edited and it was still incomplete, missing some key tracks like the Paul McCartney duet, "Say, Say, Say" or even "She's Out Of My Life". No w, we finally get the box set we've been waiting for a long time to be r eleased. The Ultimate Collection is a mammoth 4-CD and 1 DVD set with hi ts, rarities, and demos. I will begin by saying that this whole package is a little out of place. It begins at the Jackson Five period, with the hits, "I Want You Back", the bubblegum pop classic, "ABC", "I'll Be The re" and "I Wanna Be Where You Are". The first disc then delves into the period where his maturity evolves with songs like "Dancing Machine", "Sh ake Your Body (Down to the Ground), and "Enjoy Yourself". Then it goes t o the Off The Wall period, which was his breakthrough project with the h its, "Rock With You", "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", and "She's Out O f My Life". The disc also includes unheard demos like the funky, "Sunset Driver". The first disc seems to be the only disc in this collection th at is not really flawed. This set starts to go downhill with the second disc which covers the Thriller period, which was, and still is a milesto ne in popular music. The album is the best-selling record of all-time, b ut the tracks that were on that album, included on the second disc, seem s pretty spotty because there are only six tracks from the album. The di sc has tracks like the thundering, "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", the fu nky, "Thriller", the rocking, "Beat It", and the career-defining jam, "B illie Jean". T (Pretty Young Thing), which is included here as a demo version and it sounds pretty different from the original version off of the Thriller album. On the third disc, the Bad period is covered along with the uneven, yet ambitious Dangerous album. On the fourth disc, the HIStory and Invincible projects are covered. On the la st two discs, there are so many rarities, demos, and hard-to-find materi al, that eclipse some of the missing key tracks those albums featured. O n the fourth disc, there are two new recordings that sound like the mate rial from Invincible which are "The Way You Love Me" and "We've Had Enou gh". I found it very strange that Mike included a DVD containing the 199 2 Dangerous concert that was shot in Bucharest. The DVD is an utterly wa ste and he could've used the fifth disc as a collection of rarities, dem os, and hard-to-find material. Overall, The Ultimate Collection is a package that could've been better, but it's a good effort. Most of the rarities seem interesting, but some of them make the discs very puzzling to finish and listen to. The DVD th at consists the Dangerous concert is disappointing. The booklet is skimp y, offering a very brief a...

The highly-polished sound of Quincy Jones's production sounds almost organic compared to Jackson's more recent work, and in the same regard, Thriller was significantly sl icker than its predecessor, Off the Wall. It was awesome to be a kid and witness the hysteria Michael Jackson cause d with this album, and for years to come! I remember my college roommate playing "Billie Jean" until I was humming it in my sleep. As a DJ I had to play "Beat It" at just about every party I played, it was the ultima te request song! I'm not a kid anymore, but I still enjoy playing this CD which was instrumental in catapulting Michael Jackson to the throne of "King of Pop". These days Michael Jackson seems to be more of a cartoon character than a recording artist. Forget that his best friend is a chimpanzee and he lives at a place call ed Neverland and just listen to the music. The album crosses across all music genres and gives the listener a little bit of everything. It's a disco inferno and builds up to a chanting crescendo. The next two songs slow things down after the frenzied opening. One of the two non-singles, "Baby Be Mine" i s a nice mid-tempo song and then comes the superstar duet with Paul McCa rtney "The Girl Is Mine". The song shows off both the artist's vocal tal ents as they trade verses fighting over a girl's affection. You can almo st see the song as a passing of the torch from the Beatles to Jackson as the world's biggest act. The humorous "Thriller" follows and it contain s Vincent Price's debut as a "rapper". "Beat It" is the song that pushed the album into the cultural phenomenon that it was. By employing guitar god Eddie Van Halen on the song, Jackson was able to break out of the m old of an R & B artist and reach a vast white audience. Jackson showed h e was able to transcend all labels and reach listeners of all colors and musical tastes. It was a searing performance of the song, "Billie Jean", on the Motown 25th ann iversary special that helped show Jackson's amazing dancing abilities an d push album sales into the stratosphere. It was also the first video by a black artist to gain major airplay on the predominately white MTV, se tting the stage for other black artists like Prince to start reaching a more diverse audience. The album closes with another ballad "The Lady In My Life". This album w ent on to sell 25 million copies and for a long time was the biggest sel ling album in history. It almost single handily pulled the recording ind ustry out of it late 70's, early 80's sales funk and made MTV into the m arketing machine it is today. It takes a very special album to do that a nd this is exactly that. Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers. Add it to "Led Zepplin IV", "Abbey Road", "Rubber Sou l", "Revolver", "Tommy", "Dark Side of the Moon", "Under the Table and D reaming", and "Synchronicity". The variety of music, the state of the art technology, the soulful voice of Michael, and the ability to play the album start to finish are some o f the reasons this album is awesome. Seven of the nine tracks hit the top ten, two hit number one ("Beat It" a nd "Billie Jean", two of the classic songs of all time).
