3/12 So when are they going to catch this guy? From how it sounds, he took
the Grand Theft Auto strategy and won't be killing himself; he sounds
determined and focused, and wants to survive.
Jury foreman: "He seemed like a pretty logical, intelligent, articulate
        person."
Neighbor: "He walked around with no T-shirt, and didn't come off as a
9-to-5 guy. Some of the women liked him, but I didn't trust him at all."
http://CNN.com: He was accused of binding his ex-girlfriend -- an executive
at a Fortune 500 company -- with duct tape and assaulting her over a
three-day period last fall. ... Nichols had claimed the sex was
consensual. His first trial began two weeks ago, but ended in a
hung jury. ... Nichols' last known job was as a computer technician
        for a subsidiary of UPS.
Prosecutor: "I really believe that this was a random situation. This is
not a defendant who has demonstrated violence in the past. The violence
in his past was specific to his victim."

\_ Yeah, I thought he would go to a friend's house. He would have
needed to have surfaced to buy food if he really slept in his
              car. Guess he gave up.

Brian Nichols, 33, was apprehended north of Atlanta in Gwinnett County, p olice told Reuters. Hundreds of police had fanned out in a search across Georgia and neighbor ing southeastern states after the 9 am shooting on Friday at the Fulto n County Courthouse. Atlanta police said the suspect grabbed a gun from a sheriff's deputy and opened fire in the chambers of Judge Rowland Barnes. The Superior Court judge and a court stenographer were killed on the spot and a sheriff's deputy was fatally shot outside the courthouse. On Saturday, city police were investigating the fatal shooting of a US Customs agent found dead several miles north of where the courthouse kil lings occurred. "We're not sure if it's related or unrelated at this time," said Joyner. But CNN quoted the head of the state Bureau of Investigation on Saturday as saying the death of the customs agent was likely tied to the Nichols case. "They only call me when they know it is connected," said Georgia Bureau o f Investigation Director Vernon Keenan. Police Chief Richard Pennington said on Saturday Nichols had taken a seco nd gun before entering the courtroom. "We think right after he took the first deputy's weapon, he got engaged w ith another deputy and we believe that he took that person's weapon, too ," Pennington told CNN. Outside the court building on Friday, Nichols assaulted a journalist and carjacked several vehicles in quick succession, according to police and witness reports. However, it remains unclear whether the suspect escaped on foot or in a car. The deputy who lost her gun was in critical condition but expected to sur vive, police said. On Saturday, television reports showed video from a security surveillance camera shortly after the shooting in which a man resembling Nichols wal ks calmly down the stairwell of a nearby parking lot where one of the hi jacked cars was found. The bald man wore a black jacket over his bare ch est and did not seem in a hurry. Nichols was being retried on rape and other charges involving an ex-girlf riend and faced a possible life sentence if convicted. His first trial e nded in a hung jury last week and prosecutors said Nichols likely believ ed the second trial would end with a conviction. Authorities set up a tip hotline and announced a $60,000 reward to anyone providing information that led to Nichols' arrest.
