3/9 http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/10/film.passionrecut.ap Re-release of The Passion. In another news, religious conservative membership increases and Republicans are expected to rule for the next decade or two. Also, Mel Gibson is running for president: http://www.writeinmelgibsonforpresident.org \_ No, he's not. Read the site. Hooray for the rise of conservative media and conservative actors. \_ All in favor, say "die". \_ Die. But it's not gonna happen, conservatives are reproducing faster than liberals. \_ Must watch episode AABF23. \_ You got whooshed by a Simpsons reference. \_ Gibson, the next Reagan for Republicans? \_ "I am Mel Gibson, and I see before me an army of my countrymen here in defiance of tyranny. You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What would you do without freedom? Will you fight? FREEDOM!!! VOTE FOR ME!!!" \_ Haha, good memory! \_ You do realize that quotes and scripts are available online? It's this handy little technology thingy called a 'search engine'. \_ IIRC the re-release is a slightly different cut to get it under an R rating. \_ ...which effort failed miserably. -John \_ I am a Christian and have always voted for the Democrats, but this anti-Christian rhetoric on the motd is annoying. I think I am going to switch to Republican. I mean, what did Mel Gibson do that people here hate him so much. \_ Produced a movie that plays on Christians' sense of religious persecution to ensure a steady profit base while inflicting gratuitous scenes of torture on said audience. It's exploitation of the worst kind. \_ I don't particularly like the movie, but if Mel Gibson wants to make money, I am sure there are plenty of much easier ways for him to do so. I disagree that his intention is purely, or even mainly for monetary gain. And I think there have been way too few mainstream movies about Christ, or other Christian related theme for quite some time. I applaud Mel Gibson for his courage in making the movie. And boy, did he get crucified attacked ^ for it, but I think he saw it coming, and did sort of like jesus it nevertheless ^. The movie didn't do it for me because it focused on the physical suffering of Jesus, but that's certainly one aspect of Christ's road to the cross, and if Gibson wants to focus on that, I don't have a problem with it. |

www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/10/film.passionrecut.ap -> www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movies/03/10/film.passionrecut.ap/ NEW YORK (AP) -- Director's cuts are usually longer, beefed up with preci ous footage -- at least in the filmmaker's mind -- that ended up on the cutting-room floor the first time around. But Mel Gibson's "The Passion Recut," in theaters Friday, is actually six minutes shorter than his 127-minute original "The Passion of the Christ ," one of last year's biggest films. The footage Gibson deleted is some of the goriest, which he says he remov ed to make it more palatable for a wider audience. While "The Passion" g rossed more than $370 million in the United States alone, some critics b elieved its depiction of Jesus Christ's crucifixion was relentlessly, sh ockingly bloody. Gibson, the director, producer and co-writer, explains in a video introdu ction on the film's Web site that he was flooded with responses to "The Passion" after its debut nearly a year ago, many from people who loved t he movie. Churches organized group outings for members to see it togethe r, while some Jewish leaders feared the film might foster anti-Semitism. But Gibson added, "Some of you actually said that you wish you could have taken your Aunt Martha, Uncle Harry or your grandmother or some of your older kids, and you thought that perhaps the intensity of the film was prohibitive to those people. So I listened to that and it inspired me to recut the film to cater to those people that perhaps might not have see n it because of its intensity or brutality." Bob Berney, president of Newmarket Films, which released "The Passion" la st Ash Wednesday, said the distribution company had always considered of fering the film annually at Easter. "We talked about it and decided that instead of rereleasing the original, to put it out instead in this recut version," Berney told The Associate d Press on Wednesday. "Some of the more extreme moments have been taken out and it does have a change in tone." When "The Passion" came out last year, it was rated R "for sequences of graphic violence." Newmarket had hoped th e recut version would receive a PG-13 rating, but the MPAA ratings board ruled it was still graphic enough to merit an R So it's being sent out unrated this weekend to 950 theaters, with Berney saying "it's up to them to put it out with an R" -- or to put it out at all. Some theater chains have said they won't show the movie because it has no rating and it's already come out on DVD. "It's still a really intense film and Mel Gibson feels this is not compro mising in any way," Berney said. "It's still a very personal, moving, in tense film, but shaded down a bit." |

Wh y waste your vote on one or the other when the effective end result woul d be the same? If you believe that our country should embark on a different, more positi ve course then consider making the effort to write in Mel Gibson for Pre sident on Nov. Join our community of concerned citizens Why we should write in Mel Gibson's name for President... Every new idea raises overt and subliminal questions in our minds. By ut ilizing Rudyard Kipling's, "6 faithful servants," we will answer those questions. Some answers are self-evident (the first 4) with the "Why" and "How" needing the most development. Who: Registered voters What: Elect Mel Gibson (who was born in Peekskill, NY) President of the United States When: November 2, 2004 Where: Every precinct in the country Why: Res ipse loquitur. Why waste your vote on one or the other when the effectiv e end result will be the same? If youre pleased with the way things are and want 4 more years of the sa me then, by all means, vote for Mr Bush. If in some way or another you think that Mr K erry will improve the situation then be sure to vote for him. But if you believe that our country should embark on a different, more positive course then consider making the effo rt to write in Mel Gibson for President on Nov. We surely need someone with courage, conviction, intelligence, imaginatio n, dedication, and strength of character. We certainly dont need someo ne who has come up through the political ranks. These sorts, because of the pay back nature of politi cal contributions, owe far too much to the financial powers which have brought about his (or her) election. Ours, on the other hand, will be a campaign of zero budget. All we h ave to do is spread the word as to what to do (the write in procedure). Download what ever information you would like to use and distribute it widely. Make you own homemade M el Gibson for President posters. Use your imagination on the Mel Gibson for Presiden t stickers in the rear window of your car. Think of it: helping to elect someone who does not owe his life and soul to moneyed interests which have for far too many years controlled government policy. This will be a guerilla-political war with each individual citizen doing, in his or he r own way, whatever legal thing he or she can think of to promote Mels election. The current longstanding, frustrating, and questionable political system will be caug ht flat-footed by this surprise election end run culminating in the completion of the ultim ate Hail Mary pass in the end zone. There is no political party, no committee, no organization, no nada . This is a political revolution not unlike our f irst in 1776. There have been many historical instances when people o utside the contemporary arena yet possessing great qualities of leadership and integ rity have been thrust (drafted) into the battle, risen to the occasion, and often carrie d the day. Even those who were seemingly defeated, as was Christ, were the ultimate victo rs. If you believe that a dramatic change (improvement) is not only possible, but urgently necessary, then help elect Mel Gibson President of the United States of America. If Hollywood s Ronald Reagan can do well so can Hollywoods Mel Gibson. We have just under 2 months i n which to re-Americanize America. Although conviction, courage, and steadfastness are essential to assuring Mels election, we must also remember to have fun while bringing about the victory.
