at. I thought it was a /dev/null to keep the public happy. Can we
make SpamAssasin forward all spam automatically?
        \_ Aargh, mixed feelings....

8/16 Why does my Y! mail account always full of unfiltered spam
mails (and they're obviously spams)? Why can't they do
a better job like Google mail? Why does Y! mail charge
for exporting email? Google mail doesn't do that.

7/17 Thanks to steven, et al. for restoring Soda. In lieu of www.csua providing
status, could there be a text file with current status and future plans.
I'm wondering if SpamAssassin is obsolete (and my procmailrc and scripts)
and won't be restored, and what's filtering spam now. thanks!
\_ How do I buy steven a beer or donate gobs of money?
\_ I got him a Hacker-Pschorr, he seems to like ales. Prob IPAs

4/7 I have a friend who recently started a blog posting about
legal issues (he was a lawyer who was laid off). I'm not sure why
he started this blog, but it's likely something he can show off
to potential future employers. Anyway, he keeps sending emails
whenever he's added another entry (approx once a week). Is there
any netiquette about mass emailings to tell friends/relatives

Technology - AP By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer WASHINGTON - The Federal Trade Commission said Tuesday it won a court ord er to shut down illegal advertising for six companies accused of profiti ng from thousands of X-rated e-mails directing people to their online po rnography sites in the government's first legal case involving adult Int ernet spam. The FTC on Tuesday will seek a perman ent injunction shutting down the network's illegal e-mail ads. It's the first time the agency has taken legal action under a rule that r equires a label in the subject line of sexually explicit e-mails. The la w also holds others liable for operating Web sites that benefit from fra udulent pornographic spam. "It's not just the people who push the buttons to send spam" who are liab le, said Eileen Harrington, director of the FTC's marketing practices di vision. The executives of those companies were named in the complaint along with an individual, Paul Rose. The FTC said Rose sent hundreds of thousands o f illegal spam e-mails directing recipients to the sites operated by the companies named in the filing. Among other alleged violations, the e-mails did not include the required "SEXUALLY EXPLICIT" warning in the subject line, falsely promised free m embership to the Web sites and prevented recipients from stopping the un wanted e-mails. Those requirements are part of the Controlling the Assault of Non-Solicit ed Pornography and Marketing Act of 2003, dubbed "Can Spam." Spammers wh o violate the rule face possible imprisonment and criminal fines of up t o $250,000 for individuals and $500,000 for an organization. Tracking down violators can be difficult because spammers often try to es cape being directly identified by using forged return addresses or by bo uncing their e-mails through unprotected relay computers on the Internet . Harrington said the agency located the companies and individuals through e-mails consumers sent the FTC's data base in the spring. The defendants , who she said operate as one entity, are barred by the court action fro m sending out spam but are permitted to operate the web sites involved.
