If the US wants to bring Democracy to the world, why isn't it
helping Darfur? 70,000 dead is... more than we killed the Iraqis.
\_ If those 70,000 dead bodies could be converted into 200 Billion
barrels of oil, we'd be there in a flash!
\_ USA never cared about democracy. We talked about it, but it's
always our imperial interest that comes first.
We are also racist in heart. It's unfortunate, because Darfur
would be a perfect opportunities to wage propaganda war countering
Osama Bin Ladin's rhetroic, casting doubt on Osama's claim that
           Arabs are under siege.

5/26 Is it correct to call someone the daughter of Puerto Rican
"immigrants"? Seems wrong to me. Puerto Ricans get US Passports.
        \_ Yes it is correct.
\_ Thanks! Obama immigrated from Hawaii, right?
\_ Not the same. Doubly not the same in the early 50s. Go watch
                 yourself some West Side Story.

4/9 I've been reading articles about piracy and it's not really an issue
of there being just two dozen ships to patrol a large area. It
only really takes one ship, if it's the right ship (an aircraft
carrier). The Navy should be using helicopters and ship-based
aircraft (e.g., Harriers) to patrol and respond to these incidents
and then you only need a couple of destroyers to perform

3/9 Dang. Obama seriously screwed up that meeting with Gordon Brown.
Seriously, isn't Hillary supposed to be helping with this stuff?

\_ She was busy screwing up her meeting with Russia. Seriously, they
didn't like Bush, but at least they didn't openly laugh at us. I
guess they don't need to worry about crypto.

Throughout WW2, Germany produced supernotes to ruin the
British/US economy. N Korean is doing the very same thing today.

UNITED NATIONS (CNN) -- More than 70,000 people have died so far in the D arfur region of Sudan, according to the United Nations under secretary-g eneral for humanitarian affairs, Jan Egeland. A UN study conducted in June, July and August estimated 10,000 people w ere dying each month in Darfur. The cumulative number of deaths since the conflict in Darfur began in ear ly 2003 has been difficult for the United Nations to estimate, Egeland s aid. He said the United Nations has documented deaths only since April, when i ts officials gained full access to the Darfur region. UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, speaking at his year-end news conferen ce on Tuesday, described the situation in Darfur as "deteriorating" and called on the UN Security Council to take action. "Ultimately, the Security Council must assume its responsibility for the maintenance of international peace and security," he said. The Security Council has considered but not imposed targeted sanctions on Sudanese government officials. One UN official also said "no-fly zone s" over Darfur are needed to stop the attacks on civilians. Several hours after Annan spoke, the Security Council said it is "activel y monitoring" the situation and considering its options. The conflict in the western Sudan region erupted after minority tribe reb els took up arms against the Sudanese government in early 2003. That pro mpted a military campaign by the government and its allied militia, the Janjaweed. There have been repeated violations of a cease-fire agreement signed in A pril this year. On Tuesday, the Khartoum government and the rebels suspended faltering pe ace talks in Nigeria. The African Union urged both sides to stop fightin g to allow negotiations to resume in January. The breakdown of the talks came as British aid agency Save the Children a nnounced it was pulling all 350 of its staff out of Darfur after the kil ling of four of its staff, Reuters reported. The United Nations has described Darfur as the world's worst current huma nitarian crisis.
