11/19 The motd readership seems to have an excess of free time and
mathematical education. Why doesn't someone here analyze the
election data themselves to look for anomalies and put it in
/csu/tmp? I'll bet if one of you conservatives can use the numbers
to show convincingly that there was *not* a problem, you'll be
on a foxnews talkshow faster than you can say "spin." Why not?
\_ on a related note, anyone wanna play nettrek later?
\_ I think the burden of proof is on folks who say there _is_ a
problem. (Who do stupid things like observe some things, and
claim VOTING MACHINES CAUSE INCREASE IN BUSH VOTES! W00t!!!!!!!!)
\_ And the right wing ignores evidence such as a county in
ohio where only 600 votes were cast, yet Bush received
over 4000 votes. Nothing wrong there.

losing because people are finally realizing that you
guys have never had a good idea and that its time to

November 5, 2004 12:25 AM Now that the data is beginning to trickle in from the November 2nd electi on, many across the nation are raising an eyebrow to results that do not seem to mesh with reality. In one voting precinct in Gahanna, Ohio, 4,258 voters supposedly cast an electronic ballot for George Bush while only 260 voted for John Kerry. W hile it is vaguely possible that over 94% of voters in the precinct supp orted George W Bush, it is a hard number to believe considering that on ly 638 voters were counted at the polling center. Within this recent election, 20,736 voters cast ball ots in all of Gahanna's districts while the City of Gahanna only shows t hat it has roughly 20,130 citizens of voting age. Even with 90% voter re gistration, 20,736 ballots cast within the City of Gahanna would be an a mazing feat worthy of biblical notoriety. In light of Ohio's Republican Secretary of State, how likely are those provisionals to be counted accurately? W hy haven't The DP's teams of lawyers filed with this evidence? Translation: Is there any point in still hoping for a miracle of reversal , or failing that, a complete count? scientiae at November 5, 2004 03:17 AM It is my understanding that all the votes will still be counted. And I have no doubt that the discrepancy between the exit polls and the f inal results are the result of fraud. JC at November 5, 2004 07:23 AM It's really too bad Kerry threw in the towel so early, he should have stu ck it out at LEAST six months following the election and fought the inev itable possibility of voter fraud as is suggested here. I have read the stories of republican voting registrars who ripped up vot er registrations for people who were not republicans. This little peek i nto the cutthroat and unethical conduct of some republicans leads me to think that yes, fraud is indeed highly likely. However, we can not give up here, if more irregularities are reported to the media, and enough of a trickle is created then maybe the Kerry campaign will sue. Posted by: Keire Gartica at November 5, 2004 09:47 AM Republicons blocked Rush Holt's bill in Congress calling for all Computer Voting Machines to have paper trails. We're counting on you to follow through tirelessly on this one. Even if it doesn't lead to a c hange in the outcome in the election it is critical to expose any cheati ng which may have taken place. There is little that's more vile than che ating in an election. It's a terrible thing to say but I think the Repub lican leadership is devoid of morals and ethics. I don't believe they ha ve any respect for the sanctity of the democratic process. I was afraid people would use the electronic ballots with no paper trail to cheat. Posted by: mj at November 5, 2004 10:07 AM This is the start of the revolution. Yes, friends, the time has come for the people to take back the government from the corporations. We need to begin now, with these obviously f-ed up vote counts being repo rted all over the country. We must hold the corp orate feet to the fire until they burn like crispy bacon. We start with the vote, we keep up the pressure on Bush's misguided polic ies. And we do not cave in to calls to "move closer to the moral center" , because the moral center is not the radical right. Posted by: truth uber alle at November 5, 2004 10:20 AM I saw the long lines in Florida and Ohio filled with young voters that I KNOW weren't there for bush. This is an important story and we've got 4 yrs to fully expose these liars, thieves and thugs. I'm sending all arti cles like this to the media and will continue to do so until this is rep orted in the major markets. I want shrub's next 4 yrs to be a living hel l just like he'll make everyone elses. seander at November 5, 2004 10:25 AM Keep it under wraps! I'm certain that the rumors are true, e-voting was a sham, but there is nothing that can be done about it, for now. If we make a big fuss, & start pointing fingers we might, that is MIGHT, get the election results de-certified. You guessed it, it goes to the new house of reps, who hand the election back to dubya anyw ay. Naming names now will just add to Bush's 2008 pardon list. In 2008, the economy will be be completely in ruins, the people will be d emoralized by endless war, impossibly expensive health care, 10$ per gal lon gasoline, and rampant homlessness. We will take back our govenment, WE WILL DEMAND JUSTICE. And no matter who is pardon ed in the US, Bush and his cronies can finally take their "Global Test." That test is spelled "N U R E M B U R G," even if it is held at the Hau ge. Posted by: Dr Maps at November 5, 2004 10:40 AM Another reason for suspicion: In most precincts, the Senate and President ial vote breakdowns are similar and at least have similar totals. Yet in the precinct mentioned i n the article (Gahanna 1, precinct B) it was 4258-260 for Bush and a mer e 422-180 for the Republican senator. What about the ballots thrown away so the voter isn't even registered? Or people who were too busy (eg h ad to work a minimum-wage job) to wait 8 hours in line. The election was stolen in 2000 using amateur methods, and the Democrats helped conceal the fraud. The Washington Post, a Democrat paper, did not publish any information about the disenfranchisement of black voters, e ven though it was public knowledge and front-page news in England thanks to Greg Palast, an American reporter whose stories were too honest to p ublish in America. This time the election-stealing methods, with four ye ars to prepare, are refined. And one can expect the same silence from th e Democrats. Posted by: november3rd at November 5, 2004 11:22 AM Some of the swing states... Wisconsin - Kerry won 502 to 498 percent New Hampshire - Kerry won 507 to 493 percent Pennsylvania - Kerry won 511 to 489 percent Ohio - Bush supposedly won 513 to 487 percent. Just looking at the numbers, Ohio seems the least likely of these to flip . Even if the Dem's do manage to flip Ohio (and assuming Iowa and New Me xico do in fact belong to Bush), Bush will still have 268 EV's. Since Main e splits its vote, if ME gives just one of its votes to Bush (as the med ia predicted it would for a short while) we'd see a 269-269 EV split and Congress would elect Bush/Cheney anyways. We should correct the obvious mistakes (I think it's irresponsible to yell fraud this early) in Ohio. And if the provisional ballots could conceivably make a difference, count them. and when Kerry still doesn't have the number of votes he needed in OH... Posted by: Jen at November 5, 2004 11:22 AM What are the chances of gaining recourse after the fact from same politic ians and judges who fought so hard against having adequate safeguards fo r a fair election before the fact? All we can do is shine the spotlight on cold hard facts and let the crimi nals live publicly with their crime. Posted by: William Lee at November 5, 2004 11:28 AM Hey Plebe ::me waves:: Look I know your all happy cause your guy won. But please, please, please , don't start to pollute the board with massive amounts of sequential po sts. Think of a go od, long slam for the people you love to hate then post it and follow up . They will pardon extremely irresp onsible policy decisions by their President. There are swaths of them wh o see Bush as a demigod with rock star status. They are empire who will shape their own reality as fact and attempt to re-write history. Really, at this point the most we can do is keep track of the truth. Posted by: Franklin at November 5, 2004 11:28 AM The Kerry campaign already conceded, so don't expect them to do the suing . Ohio and Florida voters need to start class action civil rights lawsui ts immediately! Send certified copies of this and every article to papers of record, and drag them into the lawsuits too (if they won't print the stories). If the corpy media wants to help cheat, sue them for every bloody dollar they have. Posted by: grrr at November 5, 2004 11:54 AM This election was most certainly rigged. presents the following compilation of problems reported in t he media about the 2004 general election. Starting with early voting, we are seeing a wide array of problems, some of which appear in multiple s tates. This page allows you to see how widespread the problems are as th ey accumulate. Bev Harris alleges audit discrepancies, such as precinct-based Election Day results that differ f rom last week's final tally, and plans to inspect ballots from as many a s 50 precincts. University of California' s Berkeley Quantitative Methods Research Team released a statistical stu dy - the sole method available to monitor the accuracy of e-voting - rep orting irregularities associated with electronic voting machines may hav e awarded 130,000-260,000 or more excess votes to President George W Bu sh in Florida in the 2004 presidential election. The three-member Board of Elections discovered about 75 new votes in each contested race during th e recount Tuesday. They counted the ballots again Wednesday and confirme d the additional votes. The number of recorded vot es and voters don't match in more than half of the precincts. The discre pancies raise the possibility that some people could have voted twice, w hile others might have cast ballots that were not counted. Some ballots also might not have been recorded because people pulled their voting car ds too quickly from the voting machine. The Gaston Board of Elections sa id it was concerned by the findings. State officials learned that precinct workers left 120 provisional ballots behind at a Cleveland Coun ty fire station on Election Day, and firefighters threw the papers away the next day. Archi ve 11/18/2004 Canvass anomalies OH Montgomery County. This means no presidential vote was recorded on 1/4 of the ballots. T he undercount amounted to 28 percent of the ballots in the 231 precinct s that supported Kerry, but only 16 percent of those cast in the 354 pr ecincts that supported President Bush. Certification of the election totals likely will not be done until Friday, the deadline for certificat ion, Jean McCanliss, chairman of the Lonoke County Election Commission, said on Monday. Students at Berkeley we re given provisional ballots when they chose the option for paper mandat ed by the Secretary of State. In one precinct nearly half the ballots we re provisional. The state Elections Enforcemen t Commission will consider whether to penalize the city's registrars of voters for failing to fully merge the city's voter rolls with the state' s centralized voter system. The registrars said they tried to comply wit h the Help America Vote Act, but experienced problems, such as the elimi nation of voters, each time the local rolls were converted to the state registry. Story 11/16/2004 Absentee ballots (error) FL Escambia County. While the machine s accurately counted the number of absentee votes, they began feeding an incorrect result into the office's computers. The tabulation error show ed more than 85% turnout, when it was closer to 75%. Archi ve 11/16/2004 Canvass anomalies FL Broward County. The votes in question were counted late on election ni ght after a glitch was discovered in the computers tallying absentees. Archive 11/16/2004 Malfeasance FL The unmarked brown box sat unnoticed in the Pin ellas Supervisor of Elections office until Monday, two weeks after the e lection, when an employee cleaning a desk stumbled upon it. Archive 11/16/2004 Election law IN Indiana's law has a quirk many voters may not realize. Voters who vote a straight ticket but want to vote for candidat es of another party in multi-candidate races like at-large council will lose all votes for candidates in that race from their own party. If a vo ter votes a straight Democratic ticket but picks one Republican in the a t-large race, no votes count for the Democratic candidates. Archive 11/16/2004 Machine malfunction IN Ripley County discovered an error with Fidlar Election Co. The memory cards that count the votes in opti cal scanners had the wrong precinct labels, so the cards were sent back to the company to be reprogrammed. Archive 11/16/2004 Machine malfunction IN Brown County, which uses ES&S optical s canners, considered recounting votes in one precinct because the tally t ape produced by the scanner showed 63 unvoted ballots. However, the law doesn't allow the election board to reject certification by the precinct board, so they didn't do anything. Archive 11/16/2004 Machine malfunction IN Carroll County, with optical scanners f rom Election Systems and Software (ES&S), had to handcount county counci l votes in its 19 precincts on election day. The Indiana Election Commis sion determined the computer program didn't comply with Indiana law for that office, Carroll County Clerk Laura Sterrett said. Archiv e 11/16/2004 Provisional ballots OH Of the 11 counties that have completed checking ballots, 81 percent, or 4,277 out of 5,310 ballots, are valid, according to a survey Monday by The Associated Press. Improperly programmed and inadequately tested punch card machines failed to count 33,000 straight- party votes. Once the problem was corrected and votes counted, Bush' lea d went from 66% to 85% in the county. Republicans in other races also po sted significant gains. Archive 11/16/2004 Machine malfunction WA Grays Harbor County. Elections official s started recounting about 28,000 ballots on Tuesday after the ES&S Unit y reporting system showed too many votes. After ballots were counted, th e results were saved on computer disks and downloaded into another compu ter to keep a running tally. Some of the disks were apparently downloade d twice by mistake. The Unity software is supposed to prevent that from happening. Archive2 11/15/2004 Voter intimidation PA In Philadelphia, the Republican Party hi red local people including down-and-out addicts as neighborhood poll wat chers, paid the poll watchers to challenge their neighbors' voting, and sent visiting teams of burly enforcers in window-tinted vans in a mixed strategy of intimidation, pay and misinformation to suppress voting on N ovember 2, according to a Brooklyn law student working with Election Pro tection. Archive 11/14/2004 Long lines CO Many Denver precincts ran out of voting material s hours before the polls closed, leaving voters waiting in long lines wh ile additional materials were dispatched. There were inexcusably long li nes for early voting in many counties, where clerks have discretion to d esignate as many locations as they deem appropriate. Archi ve 11/14/2004 Malfeasance CO The list of issues in this election is troublin g Outdated voter-registration lists. Election judges turning voters awa y because of misguided interpretations of new election laws. Voters who never got to cast their ballots because they never received requested ab sentee ballots. Archive 11/14/2004 Malfeasance CO The secretary of state's election rules went th rough at least four different versions this year before the final set of rules was issued on Oct. S imilarly, the statewide election judge training manual produced by the s ecretary of state's office was not issued until a week before the electi on. By that time, a substantial portion of the state's 16,000 judges wer e already trained, and many Coloradans had already cast their ballots du ring early voting. Archive 11/14/2004 Vote suppression CO Election judges in Boulder, Denver, Jeffer son, Douglas and Weld counties gave incorrect instructions to voters abo ut IDs, and more alarmingly, sent dozens of these voters away without al lowing them to cast ballots. Some judges incorrectly told provisional ba llot voters that they should only vote for president. Some judges were s till redirecting voters to other polling places or clerks' offices minut es before the close of polling instead of offering provisional ballots. Archive 11/14/2004 Absentee ballots (late) FL Absentee voting problems were a "di saster." Voters were unable to confirm the status of their request for a n absentee ballot. In some cases, by the time they realized a ballot was n't on its way, it was too late. Hundreds of voters couldn't vote becaus e their earl...
