Full text available) Two men embracing (Photo: A Camperio-Ciani) The question of whether homosexuality has a genetic foundation can provok e fierce debate. A strong opposition to the genetic explanation is the D arwinian paradox: a genetic factor that reduces reproductive success sho uld progressively disappear from the population. The authors here argue genetic factors could partially explain male homosexuality, and propose a paradox solution: genetic factors favouring homosexuality in males cou ld increase fecundity in females, recovering the loss of fitness. They s uggest these factors should be partly bound to the X chromosome, because male homosexuality, associated with increased female fecundity was foun d only in the maternal and not in the paternal line of homosexuals.
