DRGER MEDICAL LAUNCHES NEW INFINITY PATIENT MONITORING SOLUTIONS FOR PERIOPERATIVE CARE Saturday, June 05, 2004 4:01:06 PM Lbeck (Germany) / Lisbon (Portugal) June 5, 2004 Drger Medical AG & CO. KGaA, Lbeck, presents its latest solutions for anesthesiology at the E uroanaesthesia 2004, the Annual Meeting of the European Society of Anaes thesiologists (ESA) to be held 5-8 June in Lisbon. Infinity Patient Moni toring System innovations include the Infinity Kappa XLT split-screen p atient monitor, the InfinityTrident SmartPod for neuromuscular monitorin g, the Infinity BISx SmartPod for measuring the effects of sedation, an d the MonoLead ECG cable. These fully integrated products form part of a comprehensive CareArea solution from Drger Medical for the anesthesia workplace. Infinity Kappa XLT monitor provides Clinical Vision In the OR and other high-acuity environments, accurate assessments and fa st decisions depend on having immediate access to all relevant patient i nformation. The Infinity Kappa XLT is the first split-screen, single-us er patient monitor that is designed for space-constrained areas such as the OR, Kappa XLT lets clinicians see expanded monitoring arranged accor ding to clinical context on one section of the screen, while displaying real-time vital signs and continuous trending on the other section. Ther e are no compromising pop-ups or obstructions of any kind on either sect ion. Kappa XLT expands patient monitoring by providing both real-time data and a comprehensive view of the patients changing condition, says Dave Caml in, group product manager for the Infinity System. We call this Clinical Vision an uncompromised picture of all relevant patient information for informed assessment, analysis, and intervention planning. Kappa XLT more than doubles the traditional number of monitoring paramete rs and waveforms that can be viewed simultaneously. The intuitive user i nterface which has the familiar look and feel of other Drger Medical pr oducts such as the Fabius GS and Primus anesthesia machines is optimized for the one-to-one, caregiver-to-patient situations typical of speciali zed care settings. A 17-inch touch screen displays everything the clinician needs to see tre nds and real-time data, up to 32 waveforms, specialized parameters such as neuromuscular transmission for perioperative assessment all at once. The clinician can preset options, or instantly configure the screen for the specific needs of each patient. As the acuity of the patient changes, the monitor automatically re-config ures as the clinician connects or disconnects additional parameters. An optional browser provides access to Web-based applications and access to other information via the hospitals intranet. Kappa XLT also provides seamless connectivity to multiple bedside devices simultaneously displaying parameter and waveform information from venti lators, anesthesia systems, and other point-of-care devices. Trident and BISx pods introduce Infinity anesthesia effect monitoring Drger Medical will also launch the Infinity Trident and the BISx SmartPo ds, which provide an integrated approach to measuring the effects of ane sthesia on a patient. The Infinity Trident pod with neuromuscular transm ission monitoring (NMT) is based on Train-of-Four (TOF) principles. NMT parameters provide an objective indication of the level of muscle relaxa tion in patients under the influence of neuromuscular blocking agents, e nabling the care provider to make an evidence-based judgment about the s tate of the patients neuromuscular blockade. The Infinity BISx pod incor porates BIS extended platform (XP) technology from Aspect Medical Syste ms. The Bispectral Index (BIS) indicates the effects of sedation on the brain, allowing clinicians to deliver anesthesia with more precision an d assess and respond to a patients changing condition while under anesth esia. MonoLead ECG Cable simplifies ECG monitoring Drger Medical will also demonstrate the new MonoLead ECG cable, a patent ed one-wire ECG lead-set solution for Infinity 3-, 5- and 6- lead monito ring in the OR, telemetry and emergency departments. MonoLead is designe d to be tangle-resistant, easy to clean, easy to apply and more comforta ble for the patient. BISx, BIS and Bispectral Index are registered trademarks of Aspect Medica l Systems. The Infinity Kappa XLT monitor, the Infinity Trident pod and the Infinity BISx pod require 510 review and are not yet available commercially i n the US The Infinity Kappa XLT monitor, the Infinity Trident pod and the Infinity BISx pod are not yet licensed in accordance with Canadian Medical Devic e Regulations IVenus and Primea are not available for sale in the US About Drger Medical: Drger Medical is one of the world's leading manufacturers of medical tec hnolgoy for life. Matt Welch ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- George Soros has a long and storied track record of being all villains to all people. accused by CounterPunch's Jacob Levich as willingly al lowing his overseas NGOs to be "openly integrated into Washington's over all strategy for consolidating global supremacy." well publici zed effort to effect "regime change" on President George Bush, a man he calls "a danger to the world." But then, rationality has never been the high point of Soros' many detractors. Until very recently, you could place most of Soros' fiercest critics in c ategories marked "paranoid" and "anti-democratic." In 1990s Central Euro pe, where he and his various organizations were ubiquitous presences (at least in the cosmopolitan capital cities), reaction to Soros was a usef ul if crude indicator of a politician's basic orientation. forcibly shut down by the thuggish governments of Yugoslavia, Croatia and Belarus, and singled out for abuse by brutish former Slovak ia Prime Minister Vladimir Meciar. But now, Slavic autocrats have been joined in red-faced George-bashing by two new overlapping groups: American conservatives, and hawkish friends of Israel. Ever since Soros began ladling out millions to the dump-Bush campaign, while larding his anti-administration rhetoric with inflammat ory comparisons to Nazi Germany and Yasser Arafat, it has been open seas on on Open Society. Thus we now have the spectacle of one of the world's most active and influential anti-communists (not to mention one of its most successful capitalists) being tarred as a particularly dangerous fr iend of Marx and Lenin. socialist billionaire," and lumped him with t he group of American "progressives" who he says spend their time "sittin g in their privileged retreats, contemplating the glories of such heroes of socialism as Fidel Castro, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Benito Musso lini and that great leader of Iraq's socialist Ba'athist party Saddam Hu ssein." hat tune will this i nternational financier demand from the party and President his millions purchased? What hidden agendas and interests, domestic and foreign, migh t be served?" reported response at an early November Jewish forum in New Yor k to a question about rising anti-Semitism in Europe: "There is a resurg ence of anti-Semitism in Europe. The policies of the Bush administration and the Sharon administration contribute to that... It's not specifical ly anti-Semitism, but it does manifest itself in anti-Semitism as well. If we change that direction, then anti -Semitism also will diminish... I'm also very concerned about my own rol e because the new anti-Semitism holds that the Jews rule the world... charged that Soros "has n't learned the lessons of the Holocaust," and Amotz Asa-El called him t he "epitome" of the "overlap between anti-Semitic myth and Jewish realit y," and a man "who spent a lifetime laboring to transform Henry Ford's I nternational Jew from myth to reality." I don't have the omniscience o r temperament to make that judgment about someone who survived the Holoc aust and directly confronted anti-Semitism on a constant basis in post-c ommunist Central Europe. I can say, after more than a decade of observin g his actions and words, that, regarding his comments on his own role in anti-Semitism, overly critical self-examination is at the root of his i ntellectual approach, along with (contradictory as it sounds) a massive ego and belief in his superior hunches. Reason example from last March), especi ally now that he's thrust himself at the forefront of the 2004 president ial election. But he's neither socialist nor shylock, and calling him so reveals more about the prejudices of the speaker than the faults of the man.
