8/6 Are there any windows program that would split files/directories
by certain size? Let's say I have a few directories containing
5gb of data. Any programs that would group them into 700mb
chunks (pick files until they get to 700mb, then begin next
chunk) so that I can burn them onto CD? DVD is not an option,
I want to know if there are ways to break them into chunks...
something that may works with nero perhaps. thanks.
        \_ burntothebrim? http://bttb.sourceforge.net
\_ this application failed to start because wnaspi32.dll was not
found.....? wth? this is windows xp...
\_ Do you have ASPI drivers for your CD drives?
\_ This is my work computer, maybe that's why. will try
                    again at home. thanks.
              \_ http://bttb.sourceforge.net/Help/bttb_faq.html
\_ Try http://downloads.com in the CD management section. Programs like this
were written a long time ago for floppies. I've seen the same thing
           for CDs.
        \_ Here's a DOS app I wrote several years ago: ~yuen/temp/bsplit.zip.
You can unzip and run the .com or the .exe, or you can compile the
.c yourself if you worry about viruses. --- yuen
\_ install cygwin, then use tar and split
\_ this is too much trouble. I need my cd to be able to use as is
with the minimum amount of software needed. No one that I'll
be giving the CD to understands what a tar file is. ;)
In case you are wondering, I need to burn those jpg files on to
              CDs and give to relatives.
\_ WinZip can open tar files, they don't need to understand
                 anything.
\_ zip supports multivolume archives. you can just create a big
archive where each piece is about 700 MB. winzip should be able to
           extract them.

Note: BTTB is freeware but if you donate whatever you think it's worth or (perhaps even better) take some real action for an 14 environmental goal that'd be much appreciated! I haven't been this excited about burning things since those days on the sidewalk with the ants and my magnifying glass. I suggest you do the same, as Lockergnome assured me it was. I've literally never in my life intentionally harmed an animal (with the exception of quick and painless deaths of parasites) and have been a vegetarian for about a decade, and still enjoyed it. If no one were allowed to make any politically incorrect statement I feel the world would become a very boring place.

Burn To The Brim Help Frequently Asked Questions Q: What are groups? A: Files/folders which BTTB keeps together to be burned on 1 CD. This way you don't lose any parts of multi-part files, for example, and can keep an artists' files together. slack size, chances are the files left won't fill the CD as well as you have requested (say 1 MB slackspace while due to bad fitting file sizes perhaps 5 MB may be needed). Set the slack size to the medium size if you want to prevent this. Q: Why would I let BTTB search longer after a perfect solution has been found? A: BTTB tries to minimize the number of files/folders needed to fill the CD. As there will be more 'pieces of the puzzle' left, it's more likely the next CDs can also be filled. A: Although its current main focus is CDs (as you can tell by the language in the program and helpfile), BTTB can be used for any media, not just flat CDs. Q: Why doesn't BTTB split my large files so they fit on one CD ? A: BTTB isn't meant for CD's alone, so splitting to size a file for 1 CD would be illogical.
