12/30   gcc 2.5.8 is now installed and apparently working.
        gcc 2.7.2 is installed as /usr/local/bin/gcc; it does NOT work with
        the -g option, use gcc-2.5.8 or cc if you need -g.
        gnu ld does not work properly yet.
