6/30 What's a good free ISO burner for XP? ok thx
        \_ burn4free. http://download.burn4free.com Does just about
everything else you want from a burner as well, it's great.
           \_ http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm
is free and doesn't include NavHelper. Same author wrote
              CreateCD for command-line burning.

4/9 What browser do OS X users use? I use Safari but 3-4 of the sites I
frequently visit have problems with it, so then I fall back to FireFox

\_ There's a way to enable the "Debug" menu in Safari. I forgot what
it is but it's some XML preference. From there, you can switch

6/22 When I burn an iso image using the "Disk Utility" in OS X (Tiger)
and I then use readcd on a linux box to verify the md5sum of the
burned cd, the md5sum of the CD doesn't match the md5sum of the
origional iso file. Is OS X modifying the iso image before it
burns it or something? Seems strange.
\_ Does this match on any of your other burned-CDs vs. ISO files?

5/17 My second data backup question. I am looking for a backup media I can
take off-site. I'll repeat that we've found the failure rate backing up
to CD unacceptable. She wants to go with an Iomega product but I was
wondering if people have had good/bad experience with these,
reliability-wise and if they have better suggestions. I have about
        $400 for this.

           another machine. -tom

2/23    Hi, my girlfriend's mom is in Taiwan.  Her computer stopped booting;
it shows BIOS, but it won't show the WinXP screen. So, it sounds like
a virus (less likely, partial drive failure / OS corruption, but let's
        assume it's a virus).

2/3 So, I'm really confused about this notion of computer science

exactly 2^32 bytes of space? Does that translate to 4000000000

Last updated 04/26/04 News 04/26/04 "Breaking" News: As many have by now undoubtedly noticed, ISO Recorder does not work on the Windows XP SP2 (any build up to and including RC1). Unlike some software vendors (y'all know who you are), who simply says that their software is not supported on the pre-release operating systems, I acknowledge the problem. In fact, the first version of ISO Recorded has been created for a beta build of Windows XP. The current plan is to work on it throughout May and have it ready by SP2 RTM date. I apologize for any inconvenience caused to the existing users, but SP2 was a major update on Microsoft behalf and quite a few things got broken. I have my reasons for not releasing the update earlier and would appreciate your understanding. CreateCD is a command-line tool that allows recording files and folders to a data CD from command line. This is often useful when a large amount of files needs to be recorder. Windows GUI can be slow and takes a lot of space on a system disk for temporary files. It can also be used from a scripts and batch files to perform automated backup on CD-RW. Several people have actually asked me to provide a way to contribute. I thought of beer subscription (yes, we have it in US), but then reconsidered. If you decide to contribute, please, make it at least $5 (PayPal charges me for it). Anything over $10,000 is reported straight to IRS (just kidding). It won't make an exact copy of the protected disk, nor will it copy Audio or Video CDs yet. Description ISO Recorder Power Toy is a UI component that allows to use CD-Recording capabilities of Windows XPr to record ISO images and copy CD to CD - a piece of functionality missing in Windows XPr The ISO Recorder itself does not record CDs but instead uses existing OS features. Some of the interfaces it uses are not fully documented by Microsoft and as such are subject to change in the future. To install it download the file onto your computer, right-click and select "Install". To uninstall ISO Recorder use Control Panel/Add Remove Software. Usage Recording ISO images Right-click on an ISO file and select "Copy Image to CD". The file name should appear in the "File name" edit box. If, for some reason, wizard cannot use currently selected file or CD recorder, an error message will be provided and "Next" button will be disabled. Recording operation can be terminated by pressing "Cancel". Note that terminating the actual recording operation can take up to several minutes. When copy is completed, the wizard will display the "Finish" page. Creating ISO images Right-click on a CD drive icon in My Computer and select "Copy CD to Image File". When copy is completed, the wizard will display the "Finish" page. Copying CDs Right-click on a CD drive icon in "My Computer" and select "Copy Disk to CD". If, for some reason, wizard cannot use currently selected CD drive or CD recorder, an error message will be provided and "Next" button will be disabled. Note that CD currently cannot be copied "in-place", ie using CD-Recorder as both source and destination. New features: 1 When copying ISO file to CD the temporary file is not created anymore. Also usable when you need to copy a CD but only have one drive. Known problems 1 Does not work on Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 2 No "in-place copy". Although there should be no problem with copying CD using the recorder drive as both source and destination, this scenario is not yet supported. It is planned to be supported in the future 3 Canceling the recording process takes a long time, sometimes several minutes. It appears that standard XP recording component just works like that. Author shall not be liable for any damage resulted from the use of this software including but not limited to the blank CD media rendered unusable ("coaster").
