2004/5/15-17 [Academia/GradSchool/MBA] UID:30239 Activity:very high | 5/15 I am thinking of getting a MS-Finance (14 courses) with emphasis
on computational / modeling areas to complement my CS background
Has anyone had any school or work experience with this? Is it
a good idea? (note: not in bay area, so it's not a berkeley-
specific question)
\_ I thought it was MS Money

2003/8/29-2004/2/14 [Academia/GradSchool] UID:12241 Activity:high | 2/12 How do I apply to Berkeley's CS Masters program as an undergrad?
\_ Fill out the forms and turn them in.
\_ No I mean most schools like MIT, Stanford, UCLA, UCSD, UCI,
etc etc allow their undergrads to fill out an application
and apply to their MS program directly without the trouble of
of taking the GRE and letter of recommendations, assuming

2003/10/1 [Academia/GradSchool] UID:10395 Activity:nil | 9/30 My friend says Berkeley CS MS is reserved for Berkeley CS PhD
rejects-- in another word if you kick ass and applied PhD but
got rejected, they'll offer you the MS with the possibility of
going into PhD. Is that a rumor or is that true? Any UCB grad
student wanna confirm this?
\_ The question is about Cal, but I believe this policy tends to

2003/7/14-15 [Academia/GradSchool/MBA, Academia/GradSchool] UID:29026 Activity:moderate | 7/13 Similar to the MBA post below, how useless is a MS in engineering?
If everyone has a HS degree and companies prefer HS or better, then
doesn't having a BS give you more advantage? By the same token,
if everyone has a BS degree (which is the case esp. in Silicon
Valley) and companies prefer BS or higher, then isn't it better
to have a MS degree? And by the same token, if MANY people in Silicon

2003/3/7-8 [Academia/GradSchool, Reference/Tax] UID:27622 Activity:very high | 3/7 I'm making $66,000/yr writing code. Should I be pissed at what I'm
making or should I be happy to have a job? (6yrs out of school)
\_ Where do you live? If it's in an expensive place (SF, LA, NY,
or the like) then you should be pissed if what you're writing
is any good. --dim
\_ i'm in reno, so there's a little less state tax to pay.

2002/10/1-2 [Academia/GradSchool] UID:26066 Activity:insanely high | 9/30 I am interested in a masters in cs, focusing on algorithms or
cryptography, and at stanford in particular. what do they look
for in applicants for a program like this? thanks.
\_ about $40,000 for an A per semester, $35,000 for a B
\_ Except the rest of the world doesn't know that and mostly thinks

2002/8/14-15 [Academia/GradSchool/MBA, Academia/GradSchool] UID:25558 Activity:insanely high | 8/14 Stanford, MIT, and pretty much all the other UCs have a 1 year MS
program upon satisfactory completion of your EECS degree (and they
don't even have to take the GRE). How come Berkeley has no such
program? -junior/senior now regretting coming to Berkeley
\_ Because UCB doesn't give a shit about you at all and only 'teaches'
undergraduate courses because they're required to by the state?

but was offered their MS program. I declined, how about you?
\_ I got into MS. I didn't apply to PhD, mostly because a
USC prof. who wrote me a letter of rec told me that it
wasn't worth my time to do a PhD right now.
\_ PhD is rarely financially sound. Having that

what does it take to get in? do the companies in their SCPD
program generally pay for all your tuition?
\_ What does Stanford HCP have to do with graduate school?
\_ you can do a masters or phd at the farm via hcp.
