5/17 Long, but worthwhile (found on http://www.fuckedcompany.com of all places):
post the URL instead. Okay: http://www.csua.org/u/7c3 -- A simplistic
but pretty concise explanation to the question: "Why do people in
the 'red' states vote overwhelmingly for Bush when they always get
        screwed hard by his policies?"
\_ Can't view fuckedcompany from work. Care to put this in /csua/tmp?
           \_ /csua/tmp/fcompany
              \_ Thank you.
\_ Not worthwhile. Just another partisan rant, full of wild
           assumptions and faulty conclusions.
\_ Okay, replace the word "republican" with "lawmaker". It still
              holds true.
\_ It's sad when the proletariat fail to see that they no longer have
in their hands the means of production.
\_ Help! Help! I'm being oppressed!

3/1 Can someone explain to me why Groupon is a tech company?
\_ It's similar to how Amazon and eBay are tech companies.
\_ Amazon and eBay are *NOW* tech companies, they didn't
start that way. Groupon started off as a marketing
company, and their "technology" isn't getting any better
than a bigger and bigger opt-in email spam system.

In the old days when you talked about the rich people educated at elite schools who thought they derserved everything, and who ran the country and could give a fuck about the little people -- everyone knew you were talking about CEO's, inherited wealth, etc. Now the little guy has been trained to hate "liberals" even though it's the repub donors with silver spoons in their mouth who are running things. The "heartland" people hate the "volvo driving" or "latte drinking" liberals because they are class conscious, but they don't correlate their own communities being hollowed out with the corporations that are doing it. Every cycle they are told to vote for people who will get rid of abortionists, stop the trash from being on TV, get prayer back in schools, stop the teaching of evolution. Year after year they send these people to Washington, and year after year they see NO results from these people. This is not an accident, the hot-topic issues are deliberately picked to get people mad, but to be unresolvable. Every year they faithfully do this, and as their plight worsens they never make the connection. They vote 90% republican and each year DEMAND that the GOVERNMENT be taken out of their lives and that the giant agribusiness concerns in Kansas be allowed to control 60-70% of the market for what's grown there. They are getting their wish, and getting poorer as a result. Though food prices rise, the prices they fetch drop by 25%, as they are locked into long term contracts with the one major grain buyer. The rich conservatives have taken the populist language of the left, but removed the economic parts. Now they get the same populist people to *hate* the "elites" on the coasts, but in reality they''ve conned them into supporting the very wealthy they think they are "sending a message" to. The only thing missing is the stupid and unnecessary war in Iraq. quote: Originally posted by assmagnet47: * Unlike in previous eras, the angry and powerless have been trained to protest in FAVOR of keeping the wealthy and connected in power. Put down those jelly doughtnuts, get in the gym and be men, nimrods! Before you even think of responding, try doing what I do regularly: - 30 reps of pull-ups in 90 seconds. And go all the way up until your chin is above the bar and all the way down until your arms are fully extended. Go all the way up until your chest hits your thigh and go all the way down until your hands behind your head touch the ground. And I'm not talking about the half-assed push-ups, numbskulls. Go all the way down until your chest hits the ground and all the way up without slouching your butt or beer belly. Now go drink your lattes with extra cream and sugar and eat your glazed doughnuts and brag about your pr0n surfing. Put down those jelly doughtnuts, get in the gym and be men, nimrods!
