Process: A Student's Guide to Graduate School in the Sciences by Dale F. Our Customers' Advice See what customers recommend in addition to, or instead of, the product on this page. Speaking with conviction, as well as a touch of dry humor, the conservative Coulter contends that liberals have been wrong on every foreign issue and have, in fact, consistently distorted history. She builds her argument, touching on issues such as the Cold War, McCarthyism, the Reagan era, the Gulf War, and our current war on terrorism. Not one to mince words, this smart, fast-paced item is sure to offer substance for debate, always important in a democracy. AudioFile 2003, Portland, Maine-- Copyright AudioFile, Portland, Maine --This text refers to the 89 Audio CD edition. With the fate of the world in the balance, liberals should leave the defense of the nation to conservatives. Reexamining the sixty-year history of the Cold War and beyond--including the career of Senator Joseph McCarthy, the Whittaker Chambers-Alger Hiss affair, Ronald Reagan's challenge to Mikhail Gorbachev to "tear down this wall," the Gulf War, and our present war on terrorism--Coulter reveals how liberals have been horribly wrong in all their political analyses and policy prescriptions. Hiss turned out to be a high-ranking Soviet spy (who consulted Roosevelt at Yalta). Reagan, ridiculed throughout his presidency, ended up winning the Cold War. Bush, also an object of ridicule, has performed exceptionally in responding to America's newest threats at home and abroad. Coulter, who in Slander exposed a liberal bias in today's media, also examines how history, especially in the latter half of the twentieth century, has been written by liberals and, therefore, distorted by their perspective. Far from being irrelevant today, her clearheaded and piercing view of what we've been through informs us perfectly for challenges today and in the future. With Slander, Ann Coulter became the most recognized and talked-about conservative intellectual of the year. Treason, in many ways an even more controversial and prescient book, will ignite impassioned political debate at one of the most crucial moments in our history. I'd be willing to bet most of them never even read the book. It's more likely that they are conservative bashers who routinely come to this site to bash any book written by any conservative. You'll notice each of their negative reviews lacks one very important element: facts to back up their claims. For this, he sacrificed his life, his reputation, his name. Bush during the Republican primaries, my friends warned me that I was going to have to eat my words. There's nothing like horrendous physical pain to quell anger. A couple of well-aimed nuclear weapons got their attention. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. The lowest IQ men in our society, those incapable of normal careers enlist. And of course there are the 39 million greedy geezers collecting Social Security. Newt caught and admitted in multiyear affair with young aid, while leading the attack on Clinton, finally served his wife with divorce papers while she was in the hospital dying of cancer. Coulter states that Max Cleland wasn't even in the battle of Khe Sanh. She does not speak for conservatives or any other group of rational human beings. She does, however, speak for "compassionate conservatives"--spewing their hate. Coulter lays out the facts, which cannot be found in any public school texts, and puts together an airtight case against the elitist liberal crowd. If you value truth, you will find this book indespensible. That calling attention to certain people and blaming them for everything makes money. Hey, I am not some bleeding heart that says love your neighbor. She expresses her anger but she does not really back it up. I don't want to be ugly, even though this book can work you up, whether you like it or not. But this just seemed to me like hanging out with someone that is angry and after awhile you either hate with her or put it down. All of the usual logical fallacies are included, along with emotional appeals, conveniently omitted facts, sweeping generalizations, baseless attributions, quotes with reversed context, opinions disguised as facts, and others that haven't even been named yet. As with its intellectual ancestor, Jonathon Swift's "Gulliver's Travels," many readers of "Treason" aren't aware that the book is satirical. Hopefully this won't lead to any bloodletting by McVeigh-types seeing Miss Coulter as their Messiah. The book should reinvigorate our resolve to resist fascist tendencies, however. Those who have the joy of reading it from cover-to-cover will not be surprised that it has liberals screaming in desperation. Because just as "Slander" exposed an entrenched liberal media bias, "Treason" exposes liberal attempts at history revisionism and the stark reality that many liberals do not side with America in her fight for survival. The book begins with a brief overview titled "Fifty Years of Treason" and works its way toward modern times with a stunning array of detail and factual evidence to back up Coulter's opinions. Those of us who have been brainwashed to view Senator Joseph McCarthy as a demagogue orchestrating the Salem Witch Trials of the 1950s will be forced to rethink our positions and challenge our prejudices. Along the way, the author exposes the liberal attempts to revise the history of the Whittaker Chambers/Alger Hiss affair, Ronald Reagan's fight against the Evil Empire and his challenge to tear down the Berlin wall, the Gulf War, and the current war on terrorism. Regardless of whether such action is the result of conspiracy or incompetence, Ann Coulter reveals how liberals have been horribly wrong in their assessment of modern day political policy. With a full erudite wit on constant display, an expert grasp of the English language, and an easy-to-read style of political prose, Ann Coulter has no doubt established herself as the book world's preeminent conservative political commentator.
