6/21 I was looking for xlock or at least a version of software that
will run something like the galaxy mode of the xlock/xscreensaver
on a windows 2k machine. I've googled and checked both cygwin and
http://gnu.org, but I haven't been able to turn up anything terribly useful.
Does anyone know if/where I can this? TIA.
\_ install vmware, linux and exceed.
\_ insanity. just recompile the xlock for cygwin. and the last I
checked, vmware wasn't freeware so you can't "just install it".
\_ You don't want xlock. It was written by a convicted child molestor
           and former VP of Disney.
           \_ how about xlockmore ?
\_ He's not a convicted child molestor. Even if he was, so what?
You're a child molestor and we don't mind you around here.

2/19 I program a lot by sshing to a Linux cluster. So I'm used to using
Xemacs to code. This works fine from a Linux or Windows workstation,
but sometimes I have to use a Mac. On Mac, the meta is usually
bound to option, but that often doesn't work over ssh for some reason.
This makes using emacs a real pain. Any suggestions on how to fix it?

3/15 Why does MS put double-quotes around the '8' in Windows Server 8, like
        the following?
        - Windows 8
        - Windows Server "8"
\_ Because when they didn't do it, code didn't see the '\0'
and went over? Looks better than '8','\0' *shrug*

12/21 In Emacs, how do I make it so that it will resize its screen
when the maximum resolution of my monitor changes? When I
use my laptop, my emacs is too big (and I can't resize it
because the bottom-right corner is not accessible).
\_ Which OS? Can't you drag the top border (not a corner) to resize
           the height to be smaller?

4/6 My company is evaluating version control systems. Our two candidates
are Perforce and Subversion. Anyone worked with both and have good
arguments one way or the other? (These are the only two options we

9/21 are you guys really all using win7 in some way now?
\_ Yes. In my company, we have upgraded all our machines for
development, QA and other office use (HR, Finance, Receptions, etc.)
from WinXP to Win7 a few months ago. Our products now primarily
support Win7/Win2008 and secondarily support WinXP/Win2003.

8/3 VMWare + Windows XP + Validation question. I need to test stuff with
Service Pack 3 installed. I have a valid key that I own (yeah yeah I
actually *bought* a copy, please don't flame me for supporting evil
M$). Is it possible to register the key once, and then duplicate it
for testing purposes? Will Windows or Microsoft detect copies and
        disable the rest the copies?

7/28 Does it make sense to defragment disks on VMWare? My 80GB disk
on VMWare isn't really using 80GB, it just uses what it needs.
Will defragment do anything to it?
\_ If you want to speed up disk operation in your VM, it's best to
defragment the disks in your VM, then defragment the disk on your
host machine where the VM files are.

of CPU when run in a vmware vm ?
\_ the real CPU has more capacity.
\_ Yes, did you allocate all of your CPU to the VM? Maybe you only
gave it one CPU or something like that.

FSF is the principal organizational sponsor of the GNU Project. FSF receives very little funding from corporations or grant-making foundations. We rely on support from individuals like you who support FSF's mission to preserve, protect and promote the freedom to use, study, copy, modify, and redistribute computer software, and to defend the rights of Free Software users. Last year, over 67% of our operating funds came from individual donors. That ongoing support is the primary way we can continue our work. DeCSS is not illegal and that Jon Johansen committed no crime by publishing it. Unlike the US and the EU, Norway has not bowed to the copyright industry's pressure to regulate technology and ban free software. You can do this electronically (see above link), but sending a paper letter has a greater effect. In Europe: The European Parliament's vote against software patents is not the final decision.
