5/17 I'd like to increase the default speed of my mouse pointer on a linux
laptop. I don't mean mouse "accelleration". I could have sworn
that mouse "Resolution" in XF86Config did this, but is seems to
have no affect. Does anybody know how to do this?
        \_ xset m
\_ Nope. That only controls acceleration and threshold. I want
to control the real speed of the mouse pointer. "Resolution"
does the trick, but doesn't work with all mice. I have to
pipe the mouse data through gmp. It seems like a total hack.
XFree86 is missing a setting. It really needs "mouse-speed"
Does anybody here know how the XFree86 folks are to work with?
\_ Nope. That only controls acceleration / threshold. I want to
control the real speed of the mouse pointer. "Resolution"
only works some of the time with some mice. I'll have to
pipe the mouse data through gpm. Seems like a kluge job.
XFree86 is missing a "mouse-speed" feature. Does anybody
here know how the XFree86 folks are to work with?
\_ haha. "use the source, puke!"
\_ xset m and change the threshold to zero and set acceleration
to what you want your velocity to be.
\_ Nope. Have you ever tried that? It makes the pointer
skip around, not smooth, because that's not the way
that accel/threshold was designed. But thanks for
                    trying. -op
                    \_ I haven't tried it because I don't use a mouse but it
                       sounded like a good idea.

8/1 Where is the mac desktop going to go? It seems all the development
in sw/hw now is for the iphone, imac. 2 finger Gestures won't work
on the desktop. What happened to the xserve line?
\_ Two finger gestures DO work on the desktop. Have you used a new
Apple laptop lately...they support up to 5 finger gestures.
\_ you're making my point even harder, do the 5 finger gestures

\_ I hate this game. I've been up until 1AM the last two nights.
Normally I go to bed around 11:30PM. Sooo tired. But it is
beautiful. First PC game I've purchased in 9 years.

11/25 So I have this annoying problem with my mouse set-up and was wondering
if the motd.collective.wisdom had an answer:
        1) When the mouse focus is in the browser, scroll up works but not
scroll down. It used to work in both directions.
Set-up is: FF3.0.4, MacOS 10.4.11, Mighty Mouse. -ausman

\_ Jesus! Do you really want to look at her closely enough to find
out?!? Keep moving that mouse before she _notices_ you!
        \_ She looks Japanese.

10/7 I have a laptop with 3 mouse buttons, running linux. left
button is dead. I'd like to remap the middle button->left button.
        How do I do that?
\_ Mmm, maybe get your laptop repaired?
\_ xmodmap in X11, whatever linux user for a mouse damon (gpm?)

8/9 Is there an automated way to change the IP of an XP machine? I have
tests that need to get run on two separate sub-nets that now require
me to physically go in and change the IP address of the test box.
Cygwin is also installed if that helps any. Thanks
\_ There are a few sort of hackey ways to do it:
