2005/1/5-7 [Computer/SW/OS/Linux, Computer/SW/OS/Solaris] UID:35563 Activity:very high | 1/5 So who else thinks that Linux Kernel Development has gone haywire?
WTF is up with this movement from an 8k to a 4k stack in the kernel
that breaks tons of existing drivers that are ported over from
Windows? And wtf is this crap doing on production distros like
Fedora? Don't they realize that if you're going to have a large
install base that you can't arbitrarily do crap like that anymore?

2003/2/17-18 [Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:27444 Activity:very high | 2/17 Does WinME or Win2K Home Ed require less CPU power and memory? Thanks.
\_ cpu/memory? That's the basis of your OS decision? ME is a flaming
pile of goose dung. Use 2k. There was never a reason for ME to
ship except maybe MS's bottom line.
\_ Yeah. I'm setting up a PC for my wife, and all she does is
running Excel and checking her Outlook mail in a browser over a

2003/2/6-7 [Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:27326 Activity:kinda low | 2/6 Can somebody tell me about installing/upgrading to WinXP?
I deal with MS as little as possible but it's for a friend who
refuses any alternative. There are 2 computers, both w/ Win98.
I want to do a clean install on both-- will XP let me use
any old Win98 product key to install, and will it let me reformat
beforehand? I'm not sure he has his old keys. Thanks

2001/5/22-23 [Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:21317 Activity:very high | 5/21 Is it worth buying a new wintel PC right now or should I wait until
the Pentium4/Athlon prices drop more? I looking into buying a 1GHz
Pentium3 or similar system, I just went and configured a Dell Dimension
with 933MHz CPU, 256MB RAM (SDRAM) 32MB GeForce2. No monitor, with
RedHat Linux, no windows. Came out at like $985
\_ Sounds about right, you can probably save $100 or $200 if you

2001/4/16-17 [Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:20991 Activity:high | 4/16 I have system command and I have windows98. I want to install w2k
and use SC to switch between the two. Is it possible to install
my applications in a standard partition and have both OS see them?
Since most apps dumps DLLs all over, does this mean installing the
program twice? Once from w98 and another from w2k? Is this even
possible? Thanks.

2000/7/4-5 [Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:18582 Activity:insanely high | 7/4 Let's hear it for M$, they finally have an OS that you can change
the IP on without restarting! (how many years after unix?).
\_ The problem is that the general
public (and even some lame computer
folks) don't know that, just like
they don't know that other OS's on PC

1999/9/27-28 [Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:16603 Activity:high | 9/26 Any comments on a problem someone just sent me in the mail:
'HIMEM.SYS is missing Please make sure this file is in your windows
directory' then the computer opens in DOS not windows 95 (which I
went back to after all my win 98 problems). Anyway, I've checked
the wondows directory and the himem.sys file is there so I don't know
what the problem is. Any suggestions?

1999/8/24-26 [Computer/Networking, Computer/SW/OS/Windows] UID:16390 Activity:very high | 8/24 Question. Which ISP is good for 24 hours and is reliable? I am
willing to spend up to $30/month. Also, which auto password and
auto Windows 95 dialer is good to download? Thanks.
\_ ED! ED! ED is the STANDARD! Tax Advisor.
