10/19   Why bother with locking up motd? Just use CVS. Automatic merge.

        \_ probably anonymity concerns. these could be abated by putting
           some kind of anonymizer in front of it, or flattening the logged
           uid down to "motd" or some such. --aaron
           \_ who would trust that?  anyway you still get into locking time
              out issues.  locks also allow someone to hog the motd forever
              denying timely response.  it's fine.  those who don't like it
              can use the wall.
