10/5 When I do lpr, lprm, lpq, etc I always specify -P<dest> tag. Besides
going to the actual printer to look at what <dest> is what is a way
to look at all the printer names on the network?

8/28 Hi, anybody printed a photo image to a big plotter? Something like
36"x36"? I'm wondering how many megapixels the image need to
have in order for the print to "look good". There is a rule of
thumb? Like 6 megapixel is good for X size print. 10 megapixel
is good for Y size print. Thanks.
\_ You don't need that many more megapixels for much bigger prints,

3/8 I'm reading about an old exploit where someone used a buffer overflow
in a printer daemon to get "daemon privileges," which allowed them
to use another exploit on the mail delivery program to get root. I'm
not sure what daemon privileges are. Is there some set of priveleges
that most daemons run on that is higher than user but lower than root?
What are they? I've never heard this before.

11/02 A one megapixel picture on screen looks pretty good. Yet if you print
the same picture on a sheet of paper that's the same size as the screen

DNS Service Discovery (dns-sd) DNS Service Discovery is a way of using standard DNS programming interfaces, servers, and packet formats to browse the network for services. If you think the picture below looks a lot like the old Macintosh AppleTalk "Chooser", that's no coincidence. As we move away from AppleTalk to an all-IP world, we don't want to have to give up the convenience and ease of use that made AppleTalk popular, and still makes AppleTalk continue to be popular even to this day, long after it should rightfully have been retired.
