Now I remember why going to Cal helped turn me away from the left.
UPDATE: The adults take charge and common sense prevails in Loony
        Tunes town for once: http://www.dailycal.org/article.asp?id=9345
\_ You ought to hear what the chancellor said in reponse then.
\_ "President Bush formally announced that Sept. 11 would be
called Patriot Day and encouraged all Americans to display
               United States flags."
\_ Great. Dying in the WTC (irregardless of nationality)
                  makes you an Amurican patriot.
\_ And posting intentionally mindless drivel to the motd
makes you... a troll? Or some lesser creature? Also,
the rest of us still spell it with an "e".
\_ If you wanted a flag waving, jingoist campus why didn't you
go to The Citadel or UC Irvine or something? Hadn't you heard
of Berkeley's reputation before you got here?
           \_ I didn't want a flag waving campus. I wanted an education.
Prior to college I had no political beliefs or affiliations of
any sort. I didn't even understand people like Quindlen existed.
Some of us came here for the educational repuation, not to shut
down people who didn't believe in our anti-American ideology.
\_ No, you had political beliefs, they were just unexamined.
You came to Berkeley and had to think about them and thereby
got educated. Good for you (and Berkeley, for making you
                 think).

on the csua website but I can't remember its url (onset of dementia?)
now. Can somebody plz post it, tnx.

9/4 It looks like there are some issues with wallall at the moment. Any
plans for it getting fixed? I can run wall, but wallall just gives an
        error.
\_ Asking questions on the motd will not get any attention from
any undergrad. You should email politburo or perhaps csua. -ausman

4/19 Motd updater thingy seems to be broken, does anyone know why?
If not, I will take a look later in the day. -ausman
\_ /etc/motd.public is not getting copied into /etc/motd for a while.
\_ Now it works and no one knows why. Strange. -ausman

2/6 Um, what happened to http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~myname ?
"The requested URL /~myname/ was not found on this server."
\_ Try emailing root or politburo. I don't think that the
undergrads use this machine anymore. -ausman
\_ Ausman is mostly right. LDAP went down due to an expired cert and
took down most of the rest of our stuff. It's probably a thing with

2/24 What newsreader should I use on soda?
\_ USENIX? You serious? Everyone switched to RSS.
\_ I think you mean usenet not usenix. usenet was generally much
better than blogs / rss (cf. comp.lang.c, comp.lang.perl,
the usenet oracle, alt.* with digg, slashdot, etc.)

8/1 http://www.eyeweekly.com/print/article/55882 "Quarterlife Crisis"
Too many options == no goals in life.
\_ Really good read. Enjoyed this article a lot, though it also was
fairly depressing. It seems like there is quite a bit of freedom
for young people, but all that means is they have anxiety about
           making the wrong choices. -mrauser
