8/20 Anybody bought digital cams from Japan and bring them
back to US? a) How strict is the $400 custom limit
(what about for gifts and personal use)? b) Where can
I find a 100V to 110V converter? Thanks.
\_ a) not very strict. The custom doesn't know the price. Usually
they don't ask. If you're still afraid, put down something
like $450, and paid them maybe USD $6.00 (not sure about the
rate)
b) most models are also exported, and the power supply adapts
to most ranges. My Sony works all over the world.
The bigger question is how much Japanese you know. The
supplied software usually comes in Japanese and it may
appear as garbage characters by the computers and garbages
to you if you don't know Japanese.
\_ Customs is a joke. Don't worry about your declared value. Just
don't make bomb jokes or look foreign and you're ok to bring in
a few bombs, some anthrax in marked containers and a few kilos of
coke per trip.
\_ Someone deleted this question: what's the difference between 110v
and 120v? Some (usually electricians) refer to it as 120v, but most
simply call it 110v.
\- it is my opinion that stuff like clothes, electronics etc
wont be a problems. you might not want it in new packaging
and have the price tag on. booze, cigs and such are another
matter. i dont think you can really claim "i bought that
cognac on my last trip/at safeway". --psb |
