8/20 using gpg i want to associate someones public_key with a wildly
different alias that they also use to mail me encrypted text.
I skimmed the long man-page but didn't find it.
\_ you really think the nsa cant read your text in real time? get
real. they can spot the gpg signature and flag your packets to
make certain a human reads the messages. sheesh. dont you know
the best way to hide is in plain sight where your traffic looks like
everyone else's and only the computers will read (and ignore) it?
\_ (!OP): I don't care about the NSA. I care about business
competitors, 1337 haxors, and the like.
              \_ w3 @1r3d33 0wNz y00.
\_ (TOP) o.k. i love to ecourage trolls..
                1) I'm trading commercial "secrets" not military ones so I
don't much care if some cypher-wonk in the basement of
                    the pentagon reads my mail.
                2) By encrypting traffic "they"re not interested in i'm making
their job harder, if only a little, which makes me happy.
\_ What mail client do you use to (en|de)crypt mail w/ gpg?
                   \_ mutt
                   \_ pine. (flame away)
\_ So you trust foreign governments such as the French who are
known to engage in industrial espionage for their
corporations not to steal your data and hand it over to
your competitors? So much to learn, so little time....

8/29 There was once a CSUA web page which runs an SSH client for logging
on to soda. Does that page still exist? Can someone remind me of the
        URL please? Thx.
\_ what do you mean? instruction on how to ssh into soda?
\_ No I think he means the ssh applet, which, iirc, was an applet
that implemented an ssh v1 client. I think this page went away

2/14 You sure soda isn't running windows in disguise? It would explain the

\_ hardly, My winbox stays up longer.
\_ Nobody cares about uptime anymore brother, that's what web2.0 has
           taught us. Everything is "stateless".
\_ You;d think gamers would care more about uptime.

4/6 My company is evaluating version control systems. Our two candidates
are Perforce and Subversion. Anyone worked with both and have good
arguments one way or the other? (These are the only two options we
have.) We're most interested in client performance, ease of use, and
        reasonable branching.

3/10 What email program do people in Cal CS use nowadays? In my school days
people used /usr/bin/mail, then RMail in emacs, then VMail in emacs.
After my days people used Elm, Pine, Mutt (I forgot which order). In
my first two jobs we could tell the seniority of fellow engineers based
on which email program they use at work, because everyone used what
they used to use in their school years. In my last two jobs though,

7/13 Why would Yahoo store passwords unencrypted? I recall that even 20+
years ago the passwords stored in /etc/passwd on instructional
machines here at Cal were one-way encrypted. (I think those were
        Ultrix machines.)

12/1 Just curious -- what do you guys generally use soda for? Why do you
log on? Personally, I use it to keep a presence on IRC and AIM/gTalk
at all times, and mess around with some Python programming (been
setting up Twisted and such so I can play with making an irc bot).
