An adult video store in the school's hometown said it's already getting calls for the movie even though the film has not yet been released. "We just placed the order, and they said it would be here before the end of the year," said Gary Marker, an employee of Eve's Lingerie and Adult Novelties in Bloomington. A film crew from Shane Enterprises in Van Nuys, California, used several students in taping during a visit to IU in early October for "Shane's World No. University officials ordered a police investigation October 23 after receiving a complaint from a resident manager. Administrators accused the company of exploiting students for financial gain, and sent a letter warning they would file charges if any laws had been broken. Shane Enterprises spokeswoman and actress Calli Cox said all the students in the video were at least 18 and had signed modeling releases. IU officials and legal staff would view the finished movie before determining what steps to take, including possible disciplinary action against students who appear in the video. "Well, I think the legal action is spelled out in the letter to the company. I think you have to see what's in the product," said IU spokeswoman Jane Jankoswki. IU officials were concerned the film could damage the college's reputation. They already were concerned the school's image was tarnished when it was named the nation's No. Some alumni, however, said administrators were overreacting and generating publicity for the movie. "The potential for any type of pox on IU's image is blown out of proportion," said alumnus Tom Corbett. "The porn movie company has executed a brilliant public relations gimmick," he said. "The university could be fueling their fire by devoting excessive resources and manpower to the investigation."
