5/13 "Expert Warns World Warming Faster Than Expected"
        http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=585&ncid=753&e=1&u=/nm/20020513/sc_nm/environment_climate_dc_1
\_ oh no what are we to do oh-so wise tree-hugger? Not live our life
to the fullest? You are all are a bunch of hypocrites. If you want
to do something truly enviromental - kill yourself and recycle your
body for compost. because you are goign to have kids, and those
kids are going ot have kids, and all the resources to raise those
kids will surpass any effort you make to "save the earth"
\_ a touch presumptive. many people (yourself excluded) are quite
aware of something called birth-control, and the zero-growth
              movement.
\_ plus carpooling, driving more efficient cars, public transit,
turning off the PCs and lights when you leave your office,
buying green electricity instead of from PG&E, etc., which
also help conserve oil at the same time. Killing two birds
                 with one stone.
\_ no matter how much you conserve, you'd still be using
fewer resources if you dropped dead right now. you're
pretty much a net negative the moment the sperm hits the
egg. might as well end it now.
\_ Tell this to the Indians.
\_ Without us tree-huggers, your life to the fullest will not be
              as full, simply put.
              \_ without you tree-huggers I'd have a 6 liter/500 HP V8 in my
car, gas would cost $0.30/gallon (we'd be drilling everywhere
oil is), and power would be almost free (because we would
have lots of dams and nuclear power plants). I'd be leading
\_ 1975 Newsweek article on global COOLing.
           http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/661876/posts
a much "fuller" life without arbitrary limits imposed by
                 tree-hugging technology stifling wakkos.
\_ Perhaps I should have phrased more clearly: If we tree-
huggers all stop hugging trees and instead behave the same
way as you do, your life to the fullest will not be as
                    full.
\_ for, oh... 30 years? maybe? if you're extremely lucky...
\_ malthus and his band of chicken littles have been
crying wolf for how many years now? there's still
plenty of food and other resources. when were we
supposed to run out of oil again? discovering more
of that stuff all the time, if only the tree-huggers
would let us drill for it. if we were really running
out of oil, we'd come up with an alternative. the
problem is that there is really no problem.
\_ Its great that the temp. is going up, its too fricking cold right
now. The only part that gets me is that I'll be dead by the time
it gets nice and warm (2080). At least my kids will be able to
           enjoy it.
\_ I second that. Here in the upper midwest, we all do our
best to contribute to global warming because we believe
it will make the weather here more like that of California,
and California's weather more like that of Arizona.
\_ Arizona is no good. California should be more like Hawaii,
warm water, warm weather, plentiful beaches...

The drop in food output could begin quite soon, perhaps only 10 years from now. The stuff the watermelons believe is incredible - particularly when one considers the forecast for just tomorrow is usually not much more accurate than a coin toss. All your moronic, political rants just sit there, waiting to show the world how dumb and dishonest you really are. The winter of 1975-76 was bitterly cold in the northeast. The folks clamoring about global cooling back in the 70's understood that influencing political leaders was important to their cause just as the democrat party had been duped by the global warming crowd today. The tird world scam artists and America-haters realized all of a sudden that the opportunities for bribes, kickbacks and payoffs as well as weakening America were far better going with the attack on warming rather than the attack on cooling. Back up campaigns include attacking America and/or seeking bribes etc. Future meetings in Japan will probably result in protocols or treaties covering reductions but may be postponed 'til Gore or Clinton is elected President (if you know what we mean). They concede that some of the more spectacular solutions proposed, such as melting the Arctic ice cap by covering it with black soot or diverting arctic rivers, might create problems far greater than those they solve. But the scientists see few signs that government leaders anywhere are even prepared to take the simple measures of stockpiling food or of introducing the variables of climatic uncertainty into economic projections of future food supplies. The longer the planners delay, the more difficult will they find it to cope with climatic change once the results become grim reality. You would think that after 25 years they would come up with a different call to action! Create a crisis and write a grant request and hopefully reach tenure before anyone discovers you're really just an idiot. Archaic climate models in the 1970s overstimated the effects of sulfate aerosols and also didn't figure in as much reduction in sulfate aerosol emissions as occurred (largely to alleviate acid rain problems). Except for the unlikely specter of a shutdown of North Atlantic deep water formation (which would result in a strong hemispheric cooling most drastic in Europe and eastern North America), there aren't any climatologists predicting a significant cooling trend or Ice Age now. The penchant for scare tactics among journalists seeking material and scientists and self-perpetuating government agencies seeking funds should be taken into account at all times. It's a way to dress up communism for the next generation. These people care very little about the actual environment, it's stripping capitalism that is the goal. I remember reading this article, or one like it, way back when, and always kicked myself for not being able to find it when the enviro-wackos started yammering about global warming. Within 5 years all we hear about is how much warmer it is getting. Globally-Averaged Atmospheric Temperatures 172 Global Warming Debate Continues. Red is an increase in the temperature from the average, and blue is a decrease in temperature. The large increase in 1982 was caused by the volcanic eruption of 174 El Chichon, and the increase in 1991 was caused by the eruption of 175 Mt. November 2000 was the coldest month on record for stratospheric temperatures. The temperature in this region is more strongly influenced by oceanic activity, particularly the 177 "El Nio" and "La Nia" phenomena, which originate as changes in oceanic and atmospheric circulations in the tropical Pacific Ocean. I remember the "Ice Age" scare of the 70's but it is good to have the source. Other subsequent studies have confirmed these findings and have discovered that these temperature variations were closely correlated to the concentration of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere and variations in solar radiation received by the planet as controlled by the Milankovitch cycles. Measurements indicated that atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were about 30 % lower during colder glacial periods. It was also theorized that the oceans were a major store of carbon dioxide and that they controlled the movement of this gas to and from the atmosphere. The amount of carbon dioxide that can be held in oceans is a function of temperature. Carbon dioxide is released from the oceans when global temperatures become warmer and diffuses into the ocean when temperatures are cooler. Initial changes in global temperature were triggered by changes in received solar radiation by the Earth through the Milankovitch cycles. The increase in carbon dioxide then amplified the global warming by enhancing the greenhouse effect. Pollutants such as carbon dioxide, methane, and other gases last in the atmosphere a long time so they are spread more or less evenly all over the Earth. Sulphur dioxide does not last long in the atmosphere, which means it gathers into clouds and falls back onto the continents in the northern hemisphere where most of the emissions are produced. It's funny how the eco-terrorists have changed their minds. The satellite measurements of global cooling in the stratosphere are one of the best indications of global warming currently available. It warms by receiving longwave radiation from the Earth's surface. If that radiation is trapped near the surface (which is what the greenhouse effect in the atmosphere does) then the radiation doesn't reach the stratosphere and the stratosphere cools. So if an increasing amount of LW radiation is being trapped, there should be a cooling signal in the stratosphere. There is so much insight to be gained with a historical review. The article demonstrates that global warming is just more environmental junk science. When one scare tactic is proven wrong, they just make the opposite claim. The environmental freaks don't care, as long as blame is placed on the US capitalist interests. You can either ignore it or you can actually attempt to start figuring it out. I'm not an expert but I read a lot and I've been trying to sort out these arguments for years. If you'd make an honest attempt, you'd find out that what I say is true: it isn't plain and it isn't simple. Nice theory, unfortunately the tropospheric data does not support what your attribution of the cause. Nor does the theory take into account other reasons for global climate changes that overwhelm any manmade influences by more than an order of magnitude. You know, be kind to animals and do unto the enviroment, as you would have others do unto the environment. The elimination of traditional religion gets rid of alot of bothersome ethical problems for the socialists, like the acceptance of homo-sexuality and end justifies the means philosophy. In short it's all about bucks, research, policy making, and idealogical bucks. Submitted to the memory bank, as a corollary to why and how things go wrong. House of Representatives Committee on Science Subcommittee on Space and Aeronautics March 19, 1997 I appreciate the opportunity to testify today on authorization of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Mission to Planet Earth. First, Mission to Planet Earth is part of NASA's pattern over the past 25 years of running costly, politically popular projects that are supported by powerful clients that receive taxpayer largess. NASA's original mission was space science and exploration. The space program and NASA were born of the Cold War wish to wipe out the embarrassment of early Soviet space successes. While the government has a legitimate defense role in space, commercial ventures, and scientific research and exploratory ventures ideally should be carried out by the private sector. But in the late 1950s many Americans believed that only governments could undertake such endeavors. The lunar landings forever will be celebrated among mankind's great human and technological achievements. Yet today NASA is wasteful and ineffective, squandering the public's good will, enthusiasm and tens of billions of dollars. In the early 1970s, as NASA saw Moon landings curtailed and Moon bases ruled out, it sought to preserve its ...
