and pakistan is a musilim nation it's news because that helps

Our embassy in Pakistan has confirmed today that they have received evidence that Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl is dead,'' said Richard Boucher, a spokesman for the State Department. Steiger, the managing editor of The Journal, publicly announced Mr. Pearl's death, reading from a brief prepared statement issued by him and the newspaper's publisher, Peter R. State Department and police officials of the Pakistani province of Sind, that Danny Pearl was killed by his captors,'' Mr. Pearl's family and said the United States would seek to rid the world of the terrorists who killed him. Pearl, 38, the Journal's South Asia bureau chief, disappeared in Karachi on Jan. He was involved in a reporting project related to Richard C. Reid, the man who was arrested on a Paris-to-Miami flight in December with explosives in his shoes. The second e-mail warned that the reporter would be killed within 24 hours if the demands were not met. Pearl's wife, Marianne, who is nearly seven months pregnant with their first child, had issued repeated appeals for his release. Pearl's parents and two sisters issued a statement from their home in California that said: We're shocked and saddened about the confirmation that our worst fears have been realized. Pearl's family, his colleagues and government officials in the United States and in Pakistan remained hopeful that he was still alive and would be freed. That optimism was apparent as late as a week ago when Omar Saeed Sheikh, the chief suspect in Mr. Pearl's abduction, told police investigators in Karachi that Mr. Earlier today in a court in Karachi, one of the three other Islamic militants accused in the kidnapping of Mr. Pearl told a judge that the reporter had been abducted because he was anti-Islam and a Jew,'' according to a lawyer for the defendant. The militant, Fahad Naseem, is suspected of playing no more than a supporting role in the case. But his defense attorney, Khawaja Naveed Ahmed, said that in a closed-door deposition to a Karachi judge, Mr. Naseem had admitted to sending e-mails announcing the kidnapping. Sheikh, the British-born militant who has been identified as the prime suspect in the case. Naseem, an employee of an Internet cafe, claimed that he had never met Mr. He quoted his client as telling the court: My role was confined to sending e-mails. |
