After negotiations at federal court in Manhattan, MetLife agreed that AT&T could air the ads tomorrow, AT&T said it would withdraw a trademark application, and the two sides said they'd meet next week. AT&T Wireless has been airing the ads for "mlife" on television, in print and at some airports, in anticipation of its formal introduction during the Super Bowl. AT&T Wireless is trying to create a new identity with consumers after being spun off from AT&T Corp. The campaign is designed to promote AT&T Wireless voice and data services. The ads end with the line, "We are meant to lead a wireless life. Welcome to mlife," AT&T Wireless said in announcing the campaign this morning. We're delighted to be moving forward with our campaign," said AT&T Wireless spokesman Mark Siegel. In its suit, MetLife said the AT&T Wireless campaign for "mlife," also spelled "mLife," has a "similar look and theme" to MetLife advertisements. MetLife ads "address issues such as enhancing life significance in an emotional way as do the current 'mlife' ads," MetLife said in a statement.
