10/19 How do I reserve 306 Soda? I'd like to get a room to get a bunch of
people to study for the GRE. Thanks.
        \_ http://buffy.eecs.berkeley.edu/Resguide/CS/sodasched.shtml
( http://www.cs , then click on "Room Reservations")
\_ Make sure you press the "Login" button first, then go back to
that page and you'll be able to view current reservations for
all reservable Soda rooms. If you're looking for a place to do
a group study session, I strongly recommend against 306, which
is not set up for group interaction; try 310, 320, 373, 380,
405, or 606. On a somewhat related note, HKN has been running
some review sessions for the CS Subject Test; the last one is
this Thu at 6:30 in 306, for 170/172 material.

4/8 What's a good free e-mail provider? I don't want to use Gmail,
Yahoo, Outlook, or any of those sites with features I never use that
track my personal info and keep changing their interface. I want just
simple e-mail without privacy issues or all the baggage these large,
for-profit companies are adding. I might even be willing to pay.

12/20 Question to people in industry: I'm a transfer student, which
means I can take an extra semester to graduate. I will have met

2/8 Why does UC suck so hard? I did undergrad at UCB and I hated it.
Professors couldn't teach, class workload was high, and the system
was designed to "weed out" students and demoralize them rather
than teach and encourage them. I always got lower grades than I
deserved for the amount of work I put in. I don't know if this was
because of the curve which insists that 50% of students should get

This is our premier event each year, showcasing a multitude of exciting and challenging research programs taking place within the department. This year's Research Review offers participants a unique opportunity to meet with department faculty and graduate students, and to participate in discussions that focus on the latest technological advances within the many fields of computer science and engineering. Our program includes an entire day of speakers, technical presentations, and poster/demo sessions providing visual examples of ongoing and anticipated research topics. Following welcoming addresses by Dean Vijay Dhir and Chair Milos Ercegovac, this year's Research Review will feature a talk by Professor Rafail Ostrovsky, an expert in the field of cryptology. Our morning session will introduce three new faculty members whose discussion topics include software systems, networking, and programming languages. Afternoon sessions offer a choice of topics that include discussions of resilient networks, CAD/reconfigurable computing, and database management. The evening reception/banquet will feature a best-paper awards ceremony.
