8/23 My company is thinking of switching over from MS SourceSafe to
cvs. Primary reason is price. Any good cvs introductory resources
        out there? Thanks in advance.
\_ http://www.cvsgui.org is a good place to start.

2/7 Does anyone have actual experience using Visual SourceSafe with
non-exclusive checkouts? I've heard that it's bad at merging, but
        nothing specific.
\_ We used to use VSS for years only doing non-exclusive checkouts.
Works fine for the most part. Occasionally a merge will be
tricky, but unless two people are editing the same exact

11/1 So I'd like to use Visual SourceSafe through ssh-tunneling. (I'd
rather chuck VSS entirely, but that's another story). I have no
problem getting VNC to work with ssh (using putty on a WinXP box) but
though I've tried this with ports 139 and 445 for file sharing
(following some guides online) I've been unable to get this working.
Has anyone successfully done this? How? (BTW, the reason I don't want

2/10 Is clearcase much superior over CVS? I've never used clearcase
before, only cvs and sourcesafe. I need it for binary files
only. Does the commercial product offer compelling value?
        Thanks, --williamc

Anybody know what that "+" on the right side of the permissions list
is for? This is on a cygwin/NT4 system and I'm having weird trouble
with saving files (my IDE keeps complaining that it can't write to the
        file).

2/14 Is there a way to telnet TO a Windows 2000 machine? I am running
Advanced Server, and I'd rather do my Cygwin compiles on another
machine, since compiling renders the machine useless to keyboard
or mouse input. Is there some service I need to activate, or is
        that only possible on installation?
\_ install exceed and turn on the telnetd.

11/5 SourceSafe sucks. Does M$ use it interally themselves?
\_ Yes and no. MS bought SS and doesn't try to make it better.
Same with Rational and ClearCase. Don't use either.
        \_ What is SourceSafe for?
\_ Storing and eventually corrupting and losing all your source
code for a company make/break project.

6/21 Can anyone give a pointer to a utility that will recover passwords
from a MS Access .mdw workgroup file?

on Access files? How about Unix /etc/passwd files? MS
