6/15 In a controversial press release, RIAA announced that using FAT32 file
system should be made illegal. Recently it has come to RIAA officials'
attention that the FAT32 file system, commonly found in the PCs
running MS Windows software, can be used for storing pirated mp3 files.
"We were shocked when we have learned of such possibility. We are
already working closely with Microsoft to create a successor to FAT32 -
        PHAT32, a new read-only file system." - said a RIAA spokesman today.
Microsoft's Steve Baldmer confirms: "We have been considering to
disable the write access for a while now. After all, our users don't
need write access to install applications any more. The upcoming
Windows XP release has everything that a user will need including
a virtual kitchen sink." SodanNews reporters were not able to reach
Sinkware Solutions officials, the makers of Virtual Kitchen Sink 2000
        (tm), for a comment.
\_ Don't you mean Virtual Kitchen Sink XP? Surely they wouldn't ship
WinXP with an outdated VKS install...
\_ Is this the CSUA version of The Onion?
        \_ Humble, indeed.
\_ Funnies aside does anyone care to speculate how well does
Relatable technology that identifies a song from its signal
work? Napster is using it to fingerprint tracks.
\_ When questioned about their views on NFS, an RIAA spokesman replied,
"What is NFS?" After a brief explanation from SodanNews reporters,
the RIAA spokesman was aghast. "Network file systems are an
abomination. Clearly they were designed to violate copyright law by
promoting the unauthorized distribution of music, and their use must
be stopped." Steve Baldmer responded, "This only proves that Unix is
evil. What do you expect from people who think software should be
free? They're pirates, plain and simple."
\_ And who says AI is useless!
\_ Its all about subliminal channels.
\_ When questioned about their views on NFS, an RIAA spokesman
responded, "What is NFS?" After a brief explanation from SodanNews
reporters, the RIAA spokesman was aghast. "Network file systems are
an abomination. Clearly they were designed to violate copyright law
by promoting the unauthorized distribution of music, and their use
must be stopped." Steve Baldmer commented, "This only proves that
Unix is evil. What do you expect from a bunch of hippies who think
software should be free? They're pirates, plain and simple."
\_ You should have seen the horror on Balmer's face when he
              heard about AFS!

4/5 There's no discussion on Apple being able to run MS Windows??
\_ I'm honestly not sure if it's a good idea or not. Now when wonky
incompatibilities come up, (Such as MS powerpoint conflicts between
Mac and XP) Mac users may be expected to fix it themselves. Which
leads to greater hassle, which leads to more windows use, etc.

6/13 What is the cheapest way to get 3 or 4 arguably legal
copies of winXP, preferable with SP2 ? Also, how much
do extra terminal licenses cost? tnx.
\_ OEM licenses are cheaper but you can't move them to a different
machine once you activate it. (OEM licenses are what you get when
you buy a new Dell, etc.)

inactivity. However, my laptop always does something to the HD
and I know this because it keeps clicking and clicking. I've turned
off Norton Realtime Anti-Virus thing, Firefox/IE, MS Word, and

3/15 It's been a while since I bought a notebook. Is there any reason to
pay extra $100 to upgrade from XP Home to XP Professional? How about
Intel Pentium M Processor 7x5, do they run at decent speed relative
to say, P4? And what's the difference between 1) Crystal View XGA TFT
and 2) SXGA+ non-crystal view TFT? ok thx
\_ You definitely want a Pentium M for the power savings.

12/6 I'm at my wit's end with a problem. I'm running WinXP and a lot of
newer 3D games make the machine randomly lock hard. There isn't much
pattern to it, but some games do it and some don't. This problem is
not mentioned under tech support for the games besides the generic

6/16 Well, I tried to install Fedora Linux 2 on my second hard drive so
I could dual boot. Linux works (I'm using it now) but XP no
longer boots. Hmmm... The file system and such is all still
there, so it must just be that Linux messed up the boot sector
trying to allow for dual boot. I have a winXP CD and I can run

5/27 Is there any way to get around the WinXP registration requirement,
besides re-installing every now and then? Has anyone tried this: set
the CMOS date to Year 2010 or so, install XP, then set the date back to
        today. Would that work?

11/20 What kind of Windows and Office were sold on the market between
2/18/1995 and 12/15/2001? I'm asking because I'm filling out the
M$ claim form and I don't want to put anything that is wrong, like
adding WinXP or OfficeXP when it wasn't out in 12/15/01. Thanks.

the CD-key from the repair console or from a rescue disk?
