6/5 What's the proper way to stop on a skateboard when travelling
at high velocity downhill?
\_ get on your board at I-house, and head downhill. When you get
to just past Telegraph, I'll tell you the secret of stopping.
Serious answer from about 15 years' experience: learn to
avoid obsticles, learn to roll when you hit the ground, and
expect pain as a way of life if you want to bomb hills
seriously. There is not good way to stop once you pass a certain
speed. Tighten up your trucks, also , to prevent speed wobble.
\_ hit a tree, that's how the "pros" on hearst do it.
\_regular skateboard, smooth stop, high velocity: "shred" i.e. force
back wheels forward so that you're sliding facing forward (like
snowboard). Difficult? yes but you should not be downhilling at
high velocities unless you've mastered this technique.
Emergency situation: jump off and run to a stop. Forget board.
\_ I think one of the older powel peralta videos has a very long
downhill sequence with Stacey Peralta demonstrating various slides
down a huge hill. Ask at your local skate shop. I think this
was pre-Bones brigade.
\_ there was NOTHING before Bones Brigade
\_ CHRISTIAN HOSOI. - old skater who had a board with a skate plate
at one point (it was my "travel board" -a decent Owen Neider
Madrid. Of course, the Natas board was much better.) Ever seen
they new board designs? I'll admit the boards these days are
nicer in that they are lighter and more maneuverable. but damn
kids these days don't have any fucking taste. Alll this anime
shit makes me want to puke at the Hello Kitty or IQ Egg or
Daidamon board designs. I want my old school Natas/powel
peralta artists, damn it! - old skater. |
