3/21 http://www2.uclick.com/client/nyt/gm Both true and amusing cartoon.
\_ That cartoon is neither true nor amusing. You bastard, you wasted
           three seconds of my life.
\_ and I want them back!
\_ that should have been an elephant presented a sign that reads
           "fiscal responsibility" or "healthy economy"
\_ Responsibility? You think taking away ONE-HALF(!!!) of what I
*earn* and handing it over to the largest beauracracy on the
planet is a *responsible* way to spend my money? Are you totally
insane? _What_ exactly is responsible about that? What exactly
is wrong with the government spending based on what they need to
within a budget on a program by program basis rather than just
automatically inflted every single budget every year in every
lame program without any serious oversight or questioning of how
*my* money is getting spent or *ever* cutting back on anything?
And no, reducing the rate of growth is not a cut. That's the
stupidiest shit I've seen on the motd in... in... god... days.
And *that* is saying a lot, given the sort of ignorant crap some
              of you people post.
\_ [restored. sorry if the truth hurts, you censoring bastard]

9/19 Real (i.e. inflation adjusted) per capita spending in the proposed
2010-11 General Fund budget is nearly the same as in the 1994-95
budget 16 years ago. Real per capita spending did increase during
the <DEAD>dot.com<DEAD> boom and again briefly after 2003 but current per capita
spending is below the recent long-term average.

8/11 What happened to the anti-government dude?
"A recent report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities
showed that nearly all states will spend less on vital services in
2012 than they did in 2008, after inflation, even though there
are more children in public schools and more poor people on the
         Medicaid rolls."

8/29 OC turning liberal, maybe there is hope for CA afterall:
        http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/30/us/politics/30orange.html
\_ and the state is slowly turning conservative. Meg 2010!
\_ We will see. Seems unlikely.
\_ Yeah, because CA sure has a problem with not enough dems in power!
If only dems had been running the state for the last 40 years!

2/20 Ok serious question, NOT political. This is straight up procedural.
Has it been declared that we didn't find WMD in iraq? (think so).
So why did we go into iraq (what was the gain), and if nobody really
knows, why is nobody looking for the reason?
\_ Political stability, military strategy (Iran), and to prevent
           Saddam from financing terrorism.

        \_ Emphasis on "Palm".
\_ I feel sorry for Jon Stewart and Steven Colbert. It must suck to
realize that they can never be as funny as Sarah Palin, no matter
how hard they try. I mean did you SEE what she wrote on her palm?

8/12 Thanks for destroying the world's finest public University!
        http://tinyurl.com/kr92ob (The Economist)
\_ Why not raise tuition? At private universities, students generate
revenue. Students should not be seen as an expense. UC has
been a tremendous bargain for most of its existence. It's time
to raise tuition to match the perceived quality of the
