We need your help to make sure Ralph Nader is on the ballot in 2004 in George Bushs home state. We will be profiling some of the activists who join the Texas ballot access drive. Help make sure an alternative to war and occupation is heard in the fall presidential debates. Democracy Failing in Texas Civic Petitioners Blocked from Gathering Signatures for Candidates and Third Parties Washington, DC: The doors on Texas democracy continue to close on Texas voters. Texas, where the former populist revolt began in 1887 that swept through much of the United States, is closing its public spaces to citizens seeking more voices and more choices in 2004. The independent campaign of Ralph Nader and the Libertarian Party campaign are striving for the required tens of thousands of signatures to get on the presidential ballot. But their petitioners are encountering barriers to their signature gathering of registered voters on public property. The closing of public spaces is stifling the voices of political and civic campaigners who cannot afford the expense of the mass media but who can go to the public directly with their minds, hearts and feet. The Woman Director - Jurgen Vsvch Jurgen Vsvch, also know as "Rommel" is going to Austin from California tomorrow (April 28th) to work on the Nader ballot access drive. She will be bringing her bag pipes to Texas and hopes to play them at the Alamo because there was a bag pipe player during the onslaught. She says: "I can't believe I have never worked for Ralph before. She wanted the cover but her father, who was a conservative Republican ripped it up! She could not work on his last campaign because she was working on her first feature length film. This time she had to choose between working on the remake of King Kong in New Zealand or the campaign. Stephen did not vote for Ralph in 2000 but certainly will in 2004. He was not politically ready in 2000 not frustrated enough. His involvement was stirred when he attended a re-screening of "Bob Roberts," a film about a political slime ball played by Tim Robbins. Robbins spoke after the film answering questions from the audience. He encouraged people to get politically active and mentioned that he voted for Ralph in 2000. Stephen began to read up on Ralph and found he supported a lot of his positions and admired his courage. Also, Ralph has spoken to a lot of librarians and is an advocate for libraries. Stephen got involved in the campaign when Ralph asked people during the exploratory campaign whether he should run. Stephen said he should and offered to take a week off between semesters to work for Ralph. Stephen is surprised to be going to Texas, but happy to do it. He will arrive in Texas on Friday the 30th and stay till the 6th, sleeping on a couch in someones home. He will be meeting a Minnesota activist in Houston (who he does not know) and will be working with her. He sees this as an adventure a political adventure in a state he has never visited before. Hes mentioned to a couple of colleagues about his trip and has been criticized by the "Anybody But Bush" crowd, but their opinion does not sway him, nor does their name calling or judgment of him change his views. He is not a politician but someone who supports those are struggling. Nader linked the two issues on Earth Day because he sees them as symptomatic of the corporate oil-based, planet destructive behavior of the Bush Administration. Nader has called for the United States to withdraw from Iraq including military, private military contractors, oil industry and other corporations. Nader made his statement amid calls by President Bush and Senator Kerry to "stay the course" despite increasing violence against US soldiers and US military contractors. US presence serves as fuel for the insurrection, kidnapping, terrorism and anarchy. Since the occupation is increasingly turning mainstream Iraqis against the US; Development of an appropriate international peace-keeping force: Under the auspices of the United Nations an international peace keeping force, from neutral nations with such experience and from Islamic countries, should be assembled immediately to replace all US troops and civilian military contractors doing many jobs the Army used to do more efficiently. The US will have to underwrite a significant portion of this less expensive short-term peacekeeping force since it was George W.
