4/17 Agate appears to have dropped carrying a newsgroup I read (in the soc.*
hierarchy), or at least is having problems. Who can I contact to get
this fixed (or at least find out that it won't be fixed)?
        \_ Agate doesn't support soc.queer.geeks.sexless
\_ Boy that was weak. Huh huh huh, you said "fixed" huh huh huh
\_ The guy is obviously reading a sex group. It was
                   appropriate.
\_ Um, no, the guy was me, and I was not reading a sex group.
It's in the soc.* hierarchy and is moderated.
        \_ news:ucb.news or mailto:usenet@agate
\_ Thank you for the useful answer.

12/1 Just curious -- what do you guys generally use soda for? Why do you
log on? Personally, I use it to keep a presence on IRC and AIM/gTalk
at all times, and mess around with some Python programming (been
setting up Twisted and such so I can play with making an irc bot).
        --toulouse
\_ I use it to post SHIT, er, I mean, spill my guts about the company

4/23 Soda problem: I don't seem to be able to post to newsgroups
        with trn. I get:
cat: /var/lib/news/whoami: No such file or directory

8/30 Do you guys have good ideas on increasing the readership and
the participation on motd? With fierce competition from newsgroups,
Yahoo groups, friendster & orkut network, and many other facilities,
how can we keep our unique 70's style of newsgroup going for

7/26 What's a graphical mail reader for unix that lets
me specify multiple SMTP servers for sending email?
For instance for GMAIL i want to use <DEAD>smtp.gmail.com<DEAD> .
for work I want to use <DEAD>smtp.work.com<DEAD> . I can sort of do
it in Thunderbird if I manually change the SMTP server
every time I send mail from certain locations. - danh

3/11 Why does trn keep crashing? It seems if I leave trn idle for about
5 minutes when I try to use it again I get an "unexpected socket
close" error. This started maybe 2 months ago. What's up?
It's making it difficult to multitask newsgroup reading. -jrleek
\_ The message means that trn's network connection died. You could

2/13 Buying 1GB PC3200 DDR memory for my G5-- any suggestions? I'm leary
of the top 5 returns from pricewatch....
\_ on a G5 make sure you get good memory and not some generic
PW crap. I'd check Kingston to find out what sort of timing
and stuff they'd put on their branded Mac compatible RAM and
then go w/ a generic maker that matches those specs (or

1/9 I've noticed that quite a few people will have an email address on
their resume that says something like
        "firstname<dot>lastname<at>hostname<dot>com". Is there really any
point to this? Are there actually spam programs downloading people's
resumes in .pdf and .doc format, extracting the email address and
adding it to spam lists? Does anyone have any actual evidence that
