2/5 What's the best way to do real time video/audio streaming?
Is there a single standard to both browsers, 'scrape and ie?
I go to cnn and abc news sites, there is I see a
Real and Windows Media division, then I go to sex sites
and they seem to have video streaming without requiring the user
select a streaming format. Do the porn companies know something news
doesn't about how to stream media or is there a default media format
for each browser? dazed and confused
\_ The porn streaming is usually some java thing you have to download
first, so in a sense, yes, they're more high-tech but also less
likely to run on low end browsers.
\_ There are also some sort of streaming jpg updates available in
NS4.0 and IE4.0. Porn sites can assume the customers will upgrade
            browser, news sites can't.
             browser, news sites can't. --oj
\_ and probably uses more bandwidth
\_ So what? You're talking about streaming video. If
you're on a modem, it won't work anyway. Real time
v/a streaming will only work on a high bandwidth
line. Downloading some java app for a few hundred
                           K is no big deal.
\_ I know this may be surprising, but I have not douwnloaded anything
and the streaming video+audio shows up fine in BOTH browsers.
\_ Recent releases of both browsers automatically install
                        RealPlayer for you
When I view source on the sex site there's a bunch of javascript
parameters with a cgi unique video object identifier. I'm stumped
\_ Stop with the furry paws thing and go read a book.

3/21 Browser Plug-In you must get: Ghostery. It gets rid of a bunch of
ad trackers on a web site, resulting in really fast load times.
For example, a typical media site will require 10-15 trackers
(you know, those URLs that track your activities so they can
target you better). Ghostery kills them.
\_ This has been working well for me, and breaks fewer things

\_ how much performance gain are you expecting from using SSD?
Let's say your 7200RPM yields 70 MB/sec (sustained) read and
your new SSD yields 160 MB/sec read, and that your application
is mostly streaming media (so the platter is continuous read,

My question is how do stories like this find its way to news media? Do
people just go "hey something very interesting happens in our lives.
Let's call up a news agency or two to tell the world about it."?
\_ "Your video will begin after a word from our sponsors."
