5/25 Question re: Toshiba Tecra 750CDM. Does anybody know if there's
any hard drive encasing that will fit into the Select Bay? I want
to get another drive for the 750CDM, but the drives are pretty
expensive. I have a hard drive for the 740CDT, which is a lot
cheaper, but physically bigger, so will not fit into the hd slot
for the 750CDM. Is there any such device that will allow me to use
that 740CDT hd in the 750CDM's Select Bay?
        \_ it should be possible
\_ a sledge hammer. no guarantees on being able to use the drive after
           fitting it-

6/27 You can't put 16GB RAM in the new 13" Macbook Pro.
        Fuck you Apple!
\_ Really? I know they say you can't put more than 8GB in the 13"
MBP, but I have 16GB in my 2011 13" MBP and it works perfectly.
\_ I thought the new ones have soldier on HD and RAM just like
              the Macbook Air?

7/9 I'm adding a larger and faster HD to my XP machine, and I want
to move my installation to the new drive, can anyone recommend
a tool that can do this? I'd perfer somethng inexpensive as
        it's a one time thing.
\_ There's a lot of software that does this, but Norton/Symantec Ghost
seems to be the standard and I have used it successfully many

5/31 I'm not a hardcore gamer, but I do play games sometimes. Is the
80G Sony PS3 sufficient for say, 2-3 years? I'll use it 80% for
BlueRay movies and 15% game (I play 3-4 games a year max), and
possibly 5% something else. I'm just trying to figure out how
long a 80G will last based on my usage, and whether I can get
away with a 40G version, or if the 160G is a must have or not. Thanks.

5/22 Are LED monitors much better than LCD monitors?
\_ OLED is still too new to know. They're direct emitters, so don't
have a backlight, and can turn completely off, hence better black.
The early news was that blue pixels burn out relatively quickly.
\_ FWIW, Zune HD will use OLED.
\_ Dunno, but I saw a very nice LED TV for just $2K. Wouldn't that

4/8 I'm fed up with having up download iTunes every month or so.
Frigging annoying. WHY do I have to upgrade?
\_ Apple hasn't figured out how to fully take over all of your
           spare cycles with their autoappleupdatesoftwaredaemons.
\_ Well, you don't *HAVE* to update do you?

12/15 I have a few 100G and 200G drives that I want to dump. Do people
actually buy used legacy HD on eBay?
\_ Yup they do -- researchers doing articles on the lack of safety
of data on computers often go to eBay, buy used hard drives,
and mine all sorts of goodies from the not, or poorly, wiped
           drives.

11/28 So you know, I am going to see if the collective motd.wisdom has
anything to add to my own research. I would think that given my
political leanings in most areas, I would be a big fan of "net
neutrality" but I am not, at least not so far. What is wrong with
someone like AT&T charging more for premium internet service? Don't
they do that already? Is there something I am missing here? -ausman

8/4 I went to Fry's for the first time in ages and was surprised to
see a 1T Seagate HD on sale. I'm still using my 250G and it's
only 60% full. What the heck do people put on their HD these
days, porn? I can't imagine why anyone would want to buy a
        1T drive for personal use.

7/8 You know I was hoping the government would procrastinate again
and tell us that they're not going to force HD signals till
2010 or something, but that hope is fading. Where can I get a
HD box thingie, how do I get a $50 rebate, and how much are
        those things? ok thx.

4/16 When we move to HD signals, will cable tv descramblers no longer
work? Or are they backward compatible?
\_ If you're talking about the switching in 2009, it only applies to
radio broadcast. You can still use your analog TV to receive cable
           channels.
