2/3 Can someone explain why Internic, with its domain name monopoly and
shitload of revenue, now can't handle the volume of domain name
registration? I've had to submit form multiple times just to get
        something done.
\_ They're blaming it on domain speculators. -ERic
\_ Domain spammers suck. Some folks get a big ol' list of domains,
run whois on each, find the domains on hold, and automatically
send off registration letters for every one it finds. 100,000
domain registrations popping up in the queue could slow things
              down somewhat...
\_ Gee, you'd think that $3.5 million in cash, which is what
\_ Gee, you'd think thatte $3.5 million in cash, which is what
InterNIC would get if someone did this for 100,000 domains,
would be able to pay for more staff. -tom
\_ problem is they generally don't pay for the domains, they
just register them and wait for the internic to bill.
When the internic puts the domain on hold for lack of pmt
then they just reregister it, and the cycle continues..
\_ They should just start banning people. Like, you need
to sign up to get an InterNIC ID and then use that ID
to register names. You pay for the ID. You can lose
your ID for being an asshole. End of story. You can't
get your ID activated until payment clears and can't
have an ID "on hold". Payment would be like $5 just to
generate paperwork and get info on these pricks.
\_ Internic just can't handle the stress -dom speculator

8/25 What's the best way to get a domain name that is about to expire?
\_ It's called backordering. It used to be fixed priced but now
they're trying to auction them. Still a good deal though.

8/3 VMWare + Windows XP + Validation question. I need to test stuff with
Service Pack 3 installed. I have a valid key that I own (yeah yeah I
actually *bought* a copy, please don't flame me for supporting evil
M$). Is it possible to register the key once, and then duplicate it
for testing purposes? Will Windows or Microsoft detect copies and
        disable the rest the copies?

7/9 is godaddy still the place for domain names? anything cheaper?
        \_ I use <DEAD>nearlyfreespeech.net<DEAD> since they're really awesome. It's worth
paying for a decent registrar. Also, I use Sitelutions for the DNS for
the domain, since it lets you have an enormous amount of control over
           your domain's DNS.
\_ listen buddy, tab is EIGHT spaces not FOUR ok?

5/5 Any idea why the AMD only added 8 more registers with the AMD64 arch.?
Why 16 registers and not, say, 32?
\_ To double the accessible register count, you need one more bit
in the instruction stream _per_ register field. x86 instruction
set is already packed like rat's nest as is.

4/6 im considering making my Gmail account my default email for
all my online banking stuff and domain registration and bill pay.
Is there any anecdotal evidence of people getting their google
account hacked? After I do this change, Google will basically
        own me completely.

4/9 dig txt http://domain.com only returns one TXT record even though domain
has more than one. How do I see them all? tnx MOTD!
\\_wow, I could not have picked a worse example.. "dig txt http://domain.com"
actually DOES show more than one. how come it doesn't work with
        mydomain.
\_ Show us your zone file. You probably did something wrong.
