9/19 Scorched MOTD policy still in effect. Censorship sucks. It also cuts
both ways. Think twice next time before deleting someone else's debate
simply because you disagree or are tired of reading it.
        \_ ln -s /dev/null /etc/motd.public
\_ Get a life fucker. No one cares about you or this silly
Scorched MOTD crap you made up to grow your over-inflated ego.
\_ It was necessary to burn the village in order to save it?
sometimes or it grows without bounds. --PeterM
\_ What's this debate about anyway? The motd needs to be trimmed
sometimes or it grows without bounds. It's volatile by nature.
If you want your words immortalized, how about taking up
           cuneiform or masonry? --PeterM
\_ I think the idea is that, if the motd is to be trimmed, it should
be trimmed only on the basis of age and not on the basis of
content; scorching the motd is a protest against any censorship
of particular content (as often happens). -- not the motd nuker
\_ Although censorship is bad you've got to admit that
there's a difference between something like CNN and Rush
Limbaugh. One insults the intelligence of the audience.
That's why one is a fad that went away in about a year
and the other is a respectable news organization. Rush's
content is immature and superficial yet aimed at an
                 educated and mature audience.
\_ What does that have to do with scorched MOTD?
\_ you're right. even idiots need a place to speak their
mind. After all, no one normal in the real world would
                 ever listen to them.
        \_ you're all silly --root

on the csua website but I can't remember its url (onset of dementia?)
now. Can somebody plz post it, tnx.

9/4 It looks like there are some issues with wallall at the moment. Any
plans for it getting fixed? I can run wall, but wallall just gives an
        error.
\_ Asking questions on the motd will not get any attention from
any undergrad. You should email politburo or perhaps csua. -ausman

4/19 Motd updater thingy seems to be broken, does anyone know why?
If not, I will take a look later in the day. -ausman
\_ /etc/motd.public is not getting copied into /etc/motd for a while.
\_ Now it works and no one knows why. Strange. -ausman

2/6 Um, what happened to http://www.csua.berkeley.edu/~myname ?
"The requested URL /~myname/ was not found on this server."
\_ Try emailing root or politburo. I don't think that the
undergrads use this machine anymore. -ausman
\_ Ausman is mostly right. LDAP went down due to an expired cert and
took down most of the rest of our stuff. It's probably a thing with

2/24 What newsreader should I use on soda?
\_ USENIX? You serious? Everyone switched to RSS.
\_ I think you mean usenet not usenix. usenet was generally much
better than blogs / rss (cf. comp.lang.c, comp.lang.perl,
the usenet oracle, alt.* with digg, slashdot, etc.)
