11/21 I've noticed that the OS X Terminal.app and xterm etc are all
slower than xterm / rxvt on Linux/x86. Even a 500 MHz P2 has
quicker response than a 1.33 Ghz G4 when you are logged
into a server via SSH. I'm wondering what could be the cause
of this lag. Is it something that can be adjusted? I find the
sluggishness the only think holding me back from using a Mac

10/28 I've used PC&UNIX for most of my life and after trying to use the Macs
for only a week, I LOVE IT!!! Here's a question for you Mac users--
has anyone NOT like the Macs after trying them out?
\_ yes. i hated those fucking things from the day they came out
and apple abandoned their last decent line of computers
(the apple II). I hate the prices, I hate the interface, I hate

8/2 I'm trying out Mac OS X and so far it's pretty good. I really
miss being able to raise and lower windows with key combinations.
If someone could point me to instructions for how to do this and
how to do other window manager customizations supported by
fvwm, AfterStep, GNOME, etc., I would be grateful. Thanks.

7/24 Is there a version of, or an equivalent to, the CDE (common
        desktop environment) for linux?
        \_ there's the KDE...
\_ Can it be made to look similar to CDE? All the
screen shots I've seen on the web look more like Windows.

9/6 I use netscape 4.73 under Linux. When I hold down the button to go
forward or backward with my mouse, a list pops up for me to select
from the forward or backward history. Also, the mouse cursor
switches from pointing top left to pointing top right. Sometimes,
after I release the mouse, the cursor does not return to its normal
direction and netscape "traps" all my mouse & keyboard input,

8/4 Why do people on the motd cap on Linux? Is FreeBSD so much better?
I just tried to install FreeBSD on a machine, and in some
places I could barely tell WTF the installer was doing. After
I got it running, it seemed much less user friendly. I'll
admit my experience is limited, but setting up my Linux machine
was a breeze and getting Linux info on line is a snap. I didn't

10/8 For those of you who have tried any combination of these which one
do you prefer?: Afterstep, WindowMaker, or Enlightment. I want to
know before I spend an hour downloading it. Oh yeah, ICEwm sucks.
        Looks too much like Win95.
\_ wrt ICEwm, that was the point dude...

8/21 Hi. Does anyone know how to change the default X-Windows manager
on a Solaris system? Please give solutions, not alternatives.
\_ If you're using CDE, add "SESSIONTYPE=xdm" to your ~/.dtprofile
and it will run your ~/.xsession instead.
                \_ Thanks.
