6/6 GIMP 1.0 is out, see http://www.gimp.org -- one of many nice
projects to originate at Cal, and damn fine software for graphics
        on Unix.
\_ what do you think this is? http://www.freshmeat.net ?
        \_ XCF RULES!!
\_ One decent project a decade and you get excited?
(well, maybe two if you count PRCS, but that's
more a hilfingr hack than a XCF project)
                \_ Netrek? Yarn?
\_ Can I read my mail from it? RMS told me software can't possibly
be useful unless it has a mail reader.
           \_ So write the plug-in.
\_ Just use exmh with the tcl plugin

4/02 We use Perforce at work for revision control. It seems to work okay.
Lately, a lot of the newer developers are saying that Perforce
sucks and we should switch to Mercurial or Git. I have done some
searching on the Internet and some others have this opinion. Added
advantage is that Mercurial and Git are free. However, there would
be some work to switch for the sysadmins and the developers.

\_ Soda doesn't have a real IPv6 address. The IPv6 addresses you see
in ifconfig are just link-local addresses; any IPv6-capable machine
will autogenerate these, whether or not it's connected to an IPv6

Documentation | 10 Books | 11 Tutorials | 12 Mailing Lists | 13 Getting Involved | 14 Bugs 15 GIMP from Source | 16 GIMP for Unix | 17 GIMP for Windows | 18 GIMP for MacOSX | 19 Links The GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. This is the official web site of the GIMP, and contains information about downloading, installing, using, and enhancing it. This site also serves as a distribution point for the latest releases. We try to provide as much information about the GIMP community and related projects as possible. This fixes problems with the 'make test', as well as running scripts from the commandline (without a Perl-Server running). Most stuff that you'd expect from a stable release is probably in here. If I don't get a lot of reports of problems, next release won't have a 'pre' attached to it. There are a couple of new features including a new bluebox plug-in, onion skinning and a video preview. This release is a major event, marking the end of a three year development cycle by a group of volunteers and enthusiasts who have made this the most professional release of the GIMP ever. It is the first stable release that is officially supported not only on Unix-based operating systems, but also on Microsoft Windows and Macintosh OS X. Started in 1995 by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis, the GIMP has evolved into a mature and powerful application. The latest release has major improvements in the user interface, making the GIMP more accessible for casual users as well as graphics professionals. The quality of the code base has also been substantially improved, making it easier for the open source community to contribute useful and high-quality add-ons to the GIMP. Jakub Steiner has prepared a bunch of small 28 video presentations which show some of the new features as well.

The aim is to build up a business that will have enough success to compete on the market. It can be played over the Internet against friends or against the computer. In the future, there will be more business types to choose. Changes: This release added a bank account transfer/loan dialog window, an alpha testing-stage implementation of global market product sales system, and an about dialog window. Internal changes included the important additions of SelectDescr(), MakeTransfer(), and validateAccount(). It can broadcast world news in Morse and Hellschreiber, RAC ham news, act as a MorseMail to CWirc repeater, be a CW tutor, or send fortune cookies in Morse, over an IRC channel or through DCC chat, with adjustable keying speed and Farnsworth spacing. It is easily extendable with scripts or external programs to provide additional services in Morse. Changes: It is now possible to use a custom practice set in the Morse trainer. Files that are downloaded through the proxy are transparently stored in a private cache, so an exact copy of accessed remote files is created on the local machine. It is, in essence, a general purpose proxy server, but especially suited for maintaining a cache of Debian or Gentoo packages. The primary goal of caching Debian packages was extended towards maintaining a Gentoo package cache with the creation of a new "flat" and "static" mode. A major bug that prevented replicator from visiting half the Internet is finally fixed, which makes replicator capable of replacing a Web browser cache. It is designed to allow editing of large documents on any Palm. It is targeted more at users with add-on keyboards for their Palm, as existing editors do not take full advantage of the keyboard. Changes: This release fixes several bugs in the file dialog and some bugs in the saving code for DOC files that could cause data loss. It also adds sorting for files in the file dialog and bold fonts. Members' ranks can be shown on their button, and there are 6 different ranking methods, including pageviews. The admin allows you to approve new members, edit existing members, delete bad members, and much more. A weekly ranking option is available along with daily and monthly. Stat buttons were added, allowing you to customize your buttons and display all kinds of stats on them. The admin interface was redesigned to allow editing, deleting, and emailing members from one screen. It allows you to make Internet phone calls using an Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA) or Open Sound System (OSS) sound card with speakers and microphone as your telephone handset. Changes: Various code and documentation bugfixes were made. It aims to have a wide range of applications for desktop, rescue, and administration uses. Changes: The list of documentation was updated, and the scripts were organized. Scripts were added to download Audacity and to remove the dpkg structure. A new layout system was added with a new default layout that allows users to make their own layout without having to completly copy the layout directory. Users simply copy the edited file to their layout directory and add the file name to the config. This allows updates without needing to recopy the layout directory. It allows the user to manage passwords for many different purposes, including network or Internet accounts, credit-card pin-numbers, and password-secured files. The accounts can be grouped hierarchically within a tree structure. Each account can be described by multiple attributes (such as user name or URL) and comments. All passwords are stored in a single XML-file that is encrypted by a single "master password". It is based on a heuristics engine which tries to detect which block you need or don't need, and then gives you the blocks that you don't need. For instance, if you usually play by leaving long "canyons" one square wide and then waiting for the long "I" block, you'll have to wait till eternity before you see it. The heuristics have been worked on for some time and are quite nasty. It is simple, lightweight, easy to install and configure, requires minimal changes to your existing mail server, is completely independent of which mail server you're using, and extremely effective. The author's spam intake has dropped from over a hundred messages a day to about 5. These automated test cases can then be data-driven and executed against different environments. The goal is to create an automated testing tool that can be used for the enterprise. A UI that ties a series of features to a test case, generating both the test script and the test case documentation is in the works. Changes: This release includes several minor changes and one major change that introduces a new concept to the Java community: javadoc-driven behavior. This greatly simplifies the coding of function tags by about thirty-three percent. A new tutorial was written for some of the new features. The widget has already been adapted to several scientific projects around the world. Changes: The bug that left rulers in a useless state under certain conditions was fixed. It aims to be fully compatible with BibTex and to offer comfortable exchange of references for scientists. Changes: This version is stable, and it features user management and fixed CSS. It comes with a friendly graphical user environment, an object-oriented scripting language (Jython) to build intelligent test agents, an extensible library of protocol handlers (HTTP, HTTPS, SOAP, XML-RPC, SMTP, POP3, IMAP), a new agent wizard featuring an Agent Recorder to write scripts for you, a library of fully-functional sample test agents, and shell scripts to run test agents from the command line and from unit test utilities. Changes: XSTest was added to turn functional test agents into load and scalability tests. Better SOAP interoperability is provided for Calendar data types. The Recorder was improved to handle missing content-type headers.
