EST) By Wylie Wong, CRN Sun Microsystems Wednesday will unveil a radical reorganization in which the company will get rid of its "planets" and consolidate much of its Java operations under JavaSoft President Alan Baratz, said sources within the company. Baratz will head up a new division that includes all of JavaSoft, SunSoft tools, and all of developer relations, sources said. Janpieter Scheerder will leave his current post as SunSoft president and head up a network storage division, sources said. What will remain of SunSoft is Solaris and networking tools. Masood Jabbar, current president of Sun Microsystems Computer, will take on additional responsibilities for network computers. The new group, headed by Jabbar, will be called the Computer Systems Division. Another new group focusing on embedded systems will be headed up by Mark Tolliver. Sun ( 20 company profile) also will rid itself of "planets" such as SunSoft and JavaSoft, and turn them into divisions, sources said. The Sun planets in the past were like separate companies with their own developer relations and resources, sources said.
