4/29 http://csua.org/u/74u Sinclair not to air Nightline's The Fallen
        \_ McCain for 2004. Please.
\_ Yar. It's nice to see someone else saying this. I've been
hoping for the past two years that he would pull a coup.
\_ Please. John "I hate the 1st amendment" McCain got my vote in
the Republican primary in 2000, but will never get it again.
              Nightline's name-list is obviously politically motivated--it was
originally going to only air the names of troops killed since
Bush announced an end to "major hostilities".
\_ Why are you so ashamed of the war dead that you want them
                 hidden away?
\_ There's a difference between hiding them and not using
their deaths to further your own political agenda. We
all know how many have died since it gets announced a
zillion times a day on tv and in every newspaper.
\_ You would have a point here, except the issue is
that Bush is hiding them to further his own political
agenda. Both sides are equally bad, but Bush is
the one going against all historical precedent here.
              \_ "I hate the 1st amendment"? Explain.
\_ Regulation of political speech. McCain-Feingold. Note
that the ads this year are even nastier than before, and
the little guy can do even less to get his voice out.
\_ Money as speech is a fat fucking lie.
\_ You are a fat fucking idiot.
\_ Set up a webserver. Post a blog about a lying
politician. You've most likely gone over the limit
and have to register with FEC. And you can't do this
within 90 days of federal election.
\_ TV time costs money whether individuals pay or
corporations pay. Are you saying a television spot
                          isn't speech?
\_ I support campaign finance reform, and I support
the elimination of big money in politics. Give the
candidates a month to campaign, give them all equal
broadcast time, and penalize the hell out of them
for violating that. All you're telling me is that
                        John McCain is my boy.
\_ Cool, then we'd never be able to get rid of a bad
                           incumbent.
\_ That of course guts the 1st amendment. It also is
impossible. Now we just have groups like http://MoveOn.org
slamming Bush's policies, with funding from foreign
nationals like George Soros (and I'm sure there are
examples on the Republican side of the aisle).
\_ No, our boy is an american.
\_ McCain-Feingold, does little good and some harm.
CFR is compicated and there are real speach issues
involved. Speaking of Soros, his website has a
                           good primer: link:tinyurl.com/2th23 -phuqm
\_ Source for the end to major hostilities bit? Also remember
Nightline dedicated a show to the names of those who died
on 9/11, so this isn't totally out of the blue.
\_ Can't find it now. However, why aren't they doing this on
the anniversary of the *beginning* of the war?

\_ Someone is being nice enough to post a job listing. If you don't
like recruiters, fine don't apply for the job. Just don't try to
deprive other people of the job opportunity.
\_ Is there a particular reason you're hiding the name of your
company? It may explain why this posting keeps being removed.
\_ I assume there's the poster, his recruiter, and the company
the recruiter is recruiting for. The op may likely not even
know the name of the company.
\_ I'm guessing the company might be http://geac.com -!op
\_ Not a clue. I'm the one doing the restores and not the
OP. I just think there might be people looking for
jobs. Call it public service on my part, and I assume
                    the OP's.
\_ There is no company. It's a recruiter. The guy posting gets
              a referral cut. Evil.
              \_ how do you know?
\_ Why would he post a recruiter add on the motd?
\_ Who cares? Even if he does get a cut, that's one more
job going to a csua'er. Better that than no cut, but
the job goes to somebody else. NEPOTISM!
\_ He's doing other motd readers a favor? I've often
pointed friends at recruiters with just a "he's looking
for X" and no additional information.
\_ Because the motd censor is much wiser than the rest of us.
\_ Yeah, right, like resumes and job applicants are such hot
                 commodities right now.
\_ I have recruiters contacting me a couple of times a
week for unsolicited job offers these days.

WEAR in Pensacola, Florida, has been inundated with phone calls and e-mails. A man who answered the phone in the station's newsroom said people mostly wanted to know why the decision was made. On the Web site for WLOS in Asheville, North Carolina, the station invited viewers to e-mail the station and said it would forward the messages to Sinclair. ABC said that on the first anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, it aired the names and pictures of all those who died on that day. One hundred thirty-four American troops died in the month, of which 119 have been identified by the Pentagon, the paper noted; Koppel and 'Nightline' are hiding behind this so-called tribute in an effort to highlight only one aspect of the war effort and in doing so to influence public opinion against the military action in Iraq," the statement said. According to campaign finance records, four of Sinclair's top executives each have given the maximum campaign contribution of $2,000 to the Bush-Cheney re-election campaign. The executives have not given any donations to the campaign of Sen. John Kerry, the presumptive Democratic nominee, the records showed. Sinclair owns and operates, programs, or provides sales services to 62 stations in 39 markets, according to its Web site. In addition its ABC outlets, Sinclair's television group includes 20 Fox, 19 WB, six UPN, three CBS and four NBC affiliates, and two independent stations. ABC News will show the tribute live on its large television screen in New York's Times Square. Story Tools 32 Click Here to try 4 Free Trial Issues of Time!

The Movie the White House Doesn't Want You to See On Memorial Day weekend, Hollywood is releasing a summer blockbuster movie that's making the Bush administration very nervous. Because it's a disaster movie about a potential climate crisis. While "The Day After Tomorrow" is more science fiction than science fact, everyone will be talking about it -- and asking "Could it really happen?" This is an unprecedented opportunity to talk to millions of Americans about the real dangers of global warming and expose President Bush's foot-dragging on the issue. Responding to Torture Reports and photographs of Iraqi prisoners being tortured and abused by US and British troops have shocked the world. We've got to support an immediate, independent, impartial and public investigation into all allegations of torture. To be credible, the investigation should be done by an international body, including representatives of Arab nations. We've got to get to the bottom of this, and we've got to do it now. Censure Bush for Misleading Us In an attempt to evade responsibility for the misleading statements that pushed the nation into war, Bush has announced plans to form an independent inquiry to look into what went wrong. An inquiry would serve the Bush administration well: it would envelop the issue in a fog of uncertainty, deflect blame onto the intelligence services, and delay any political damage until 2005, after the upcoming election. Despite repeated warnings from the CIA and the Defense Intelligence Agency, President Bush and his administration hyped and distorted the threat that Iraq posed. And now that reality is setting in, the President wants to pin the blame on someone else. Congress has the power to censure the President -- to formally reprimand him for betraying the nation's trust. MoveOn's 50 Ways to Love Your Country How to Find Your Political Voice and Become a Catalyst for Change Written by MoveOn members across the country, from Hawaii to Maine, from political figures to teachers, this collection of essays shares compelling personal stories and action items with resources for taking inspiration a step further. Simple ideas are illuminated, such as "His Last Vote," about a dying man's wish to cast a ballot, as are more dynamic actions, such as "Start a Petition," which chronicles a couple's quest to protect wolves from trappers in Alaska. MoveOn's 50 Ways to Love Your Country answers the question that more and more citizens are asking: "What can I do?" Protect our Kids from Mercury Pollution Under energy industry pressure, President Bushs EPA plans to defer controls on mercury emissions by power plants for at least a decade. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimate that 49 million women of childbearing age in the US -- that's 8 percent -- have unsafe levels of mercury in their blood. The people hit hardest will be new-born infants -- every year over 630,000 infants are born with levels of mercury in their blood so high they can cause brain damage. We have just a few weeks to get public comments to the EPA on this plan to defer mercury controls. It's time to tell the EPA and the White House that our kids come first. Al Gore Speaks on Global Warming and the Environment Beacon Theater, New York January 15, 2004, Noon In this, his third major speech sponsored by MoveOn, Mr Gore issued an indictment of the Bush administration's inaction on global warming, linking the issue to national security. He showed that global warming is not a future threat -- it is happening now. And yet, the President is choosing to help his coal- and oil-company supporters rather than advance modern technologies that can affordably solve this critical problem. Support Kerry's call to fire Rumsfeld May 7, 2004 In the wake of revelations of torture and abuse of Iraqi prisoners, John Kerry has launched an important petition calling for President Bush to fire Donald Rumsfeld. Getting rid of Secretary Rumsfeld would be a huge step forward for all of us who oppose the Bush war policy, and Kerry needs to hear our support. Help win the election this Saturday May 3, 2004 This Saturday, we're joining other grassroots groups in the largest day of voter mobilization in American history. MoveOn members will gather at parties across the country to make over 100,000 phone calls in one afternoon to swing state voters. In an election that could be won or lost with a handful of votes, we'll work to turn out every last progressive voter and send George Bush packing.
