Student Accused Of Threatening Teacher With Cookie Teacher Is Highly Allergic To Peanuts POSTED: 3:32 pm EDT April 22, 2004 UPDATED: 3:45 pm EDT April 22, 2004 SOUTH ORANGE, NJ - A pack of Nutter Butter cookies landed a New Jersey sixth-grader a school suspension. The father of Jules Gabriel said officials in South Orange suspended the 12-year-old earlier this month - for allegedly threatening to expose a highly-allergic teacher to the peanut butter cookies.
The dad said his son did make a comment about having something dangerous - but said the boy never claimed to have a weapon. Loubert Gabriel said the teacher was never exposed to the cookies, and that the school district mishandled this. He said the boy has been kept out of school since April 2, pending a hearing next month. Ingesting even a morsel of peanut can cause some people to suffer severe reactions, including death.
