Tone-deaf, karaoke-trained, and a far cry from the series polished and trendy wannabe pop stars, Hung was booted halfway through his classic cover of Ricky Martin s She Bangs. Inspiration , his first and possibly last CD, gives his legion of fans a chance to hear him in his entirety.
A few inspirational thought tracks are interspersed between the songs, giving you insight into the UC Berkeley students self-confidence and enthusiasm. A bonus DVD even contains new footage and interviews of Hong in action. There are plenty of classic, imaginative novelty records out there-consider the Shaggs , Lucia Pamela , and Mrs. Hungs backing music is too bland and, after a few tracks, the joke wears a little thin. But if you must hear more of this unlikely American Idol, heres your chance.
Well, I bet William knows what we feel, but he just enjoys his own dream - be a popular idol. For the previous reviews who regarding racism, I dont think people like William are also racist to Chinese or treat Chinese as idiots.
Its tempting to dismiss William Hung as a mere circus performer, but I have no wish to insult the worlds circus performers. But while William Hungs vocal talent is certainly a joke, it would be a mistake to argue that he therefore altogether lacks talent in this arena. In fact, Hung - very much like Madonna, Britney Spears, and Kurt Cobain - possesses great talent: the talent of a con artist. Hung is banking on widespread misguided judgment, on cataclysmically cheapened tastes - in other words, on the very ingredients that made these other con artists rich. This extraordinary ability to identify and exploit the degenerate tastes of the mob is their real great talent, a talent reaching to the depths of cynicism. Shame on William Hung and his backers for contributing to todays relentless cultural decay. This nihilistic celebration of the meaningless and absurd is, of course, very modern, very fashionable. As such well doubtless continue to skip and whistle our way to oblivion. But in the scheme of things, as harmless as he seems, William Hungs success is yet another disturbing symptom of cultural decline.
