3/31 Will a mini-ATX board fit in an ATX case?
\_ I want to say yes, but I'm not sure. If your google-foo is strong
the specs for both standards are available online. You can just
           open them side-by-side and compare.
\_ Yes, my computer is set up this way. Not all the mounting
screws always line up perfectly though, so when installing
cards make sure the motherboard has some back support or you
flex it in less than ideal ways.
\_ Yes. Also, I think Mini-ITX boards also fit in ATX cases.
I'm running a Micro-ATX (cause it has 3 expansion slots)
           case Antec KS280B Black ATX
           mobo VIA C3M266-L Mini-ATX
           cpu VIA C3 866Mhz ezra (i586tsc)
           cpu VIA C3 866Mhz ezra
\_ "Yes, but". If its for anything you care about get the right case.

\_ It might be the first image available via HTTP all right, but people
have been downloading GIF's via FTP long before that. I still
remember files like sigirl5.gif and dadygirl.gif back in 1990.

6/27 You can't put 16GB RAM in the new 13" Macbook Pro.
        Fuck you Apple!
\_ Really? I know they say you can't put more than 8GB in the 13"
MBP, but I have 16GB in my 2011 13" MBP and it works perfectly.
\_ I thought the new ones have soldier on HD and RAM just like
              the Macbook Air?

1/26 What's a good motherboard I can get that will fit in a 1U
case, with sata connectors, gig-e ethernet, and lots of
slots for RAM? I also don't want to have to use expensive
double buffered RAM. Can you tell I havne't bought a PC in
        years? thanks.

5/20 Linux question. my laptop has a Nvidia 8400M GS chipset. For a
while I was excited about the fact that Nvidia actually has
Linux driver for such. But after I used it for about 2-3
weeks, I realize that this Nvidia driver is the reason why my
Ubuntu is keep crashing. I would like to swtich to a
open-source driver, idealy, capable of leveraging some degree

5/27 I just spend a few hours on a silly BIOS problem and I'm posting it
here so that you guys wouldn't have to go through this again. My
MB is Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro and the latest BIOS update is version
F17, which is in 2004. It comes with the MB Sil (Silicon Image)
3112A SATA controller, which unfortunately, is outdated from 2002
and does not recognize my Seagate 750G drive-- the boot loader

5/15 My older brother's Fujitsu notebook (S7010D) died last week and the
nearest registered service center says it will be $800 just for a
replacement motherboard (shipped from Japan). Are there any
alternatives? ebay shows nothing. fyi, the notbook was purchased
2yrs 9months ago, he never ponied up the $180 for the extended 3yr
warranty, but treated it well. had been rebooting randomly before

\_ I'm still wondering what use everyone has for a CPU like this that
a CPU at half the cost won't do. I understand this is the bang for
the buck price point. What's all that bang for anyway?

3/2 How is an Opteron different from an Athlon64?
\_ Most Opterons require registered DIMM (940pin) and most
have 3 HT links. 1xx series only have 1 usable one, though.
There're some 939pin Opterons, which are basically identical
to Athlon 64. All Athlon 64s have 1 HT link only and use
unbuffered DIMMs. Internally, they're identical other than

1/15 I'm running a Gentoo box with udev-070. A handful of my devices
(mouse and joystick, to name the most noticable) work fine if
they're plugged in at boot time, but if I plug them in later they
have some issues. For the mouse, it doesn't detect the mouse
wheel; for the joystick, it doesn't work at all. I'm not exactly
sure what to google for, as the howto I've found regarding Gentoo

1/11 Anyone knows what happens to Apple's chipset design team
now that the Intel Macs are official?
\_ Who says Apple still wouldn't be using their own chipsets for
Intel chips? And wouldn't it be likely that the x86 version of
Mac OS X would require, say, an Apple chipset to prevent it from
           running on non-Apple hardware?
