2/21 Just a rumor at this point, but...Wife of Texas Governor divorcing him
because...she caught him in bed with another man, the Secretary of
        State?!
        http://austin.indymedia.org/newswire/display/15577/index.php
\_ If you scroll down, they also accuse Bush of extramarital gay
affairs. It's like Matt Drudge...only on the left. The only
difference is when leftists spread obvious bullshit it's treated
as such, but you fucking rightwingers believe whatever Drudge
feels like making up this week.
\_ Drudge has an excellent track record. He's been wron exactly
once and got sued for it. He pulled the posting the same
day which is better than the NYT has done. It's easy to sit
here and toss around vague and unsubstantiated accusations
but the fact remains that drudge has an excellent record.
\_ Didn't Drudge break the Lewinsky story?
\_ Drudge is a mouthpeice for right wing smears. Some of them
turn out to be true, but that doesn't make him any less of
a mouthpeice. His basic problem is that he heavily promotes
stories for which he has no second source to confirm, and often
with a questionable source to begin with. As for the Texas
story, likely not true, but his wife IS divorcing him.
\_ As always its the Vast Right Wing Conspiracy, right?
\_ Drudge differentiates between rumors and true stories. He
leaves it for the reader to decide instead of media
sources like the NYT which print a brief mea culpa after
                     years of publishing false stories.
\_ False stories? Besides Jaysun Blair, can you back this
up? Woops, I didn't think so!
\_ Idiot. Go read the god damned thing. It's chock
of retractions, errors, slanted word choice,
misleading headlines and editorial dressed up as
news. I'm not going to respond to your trolling
                           ignorant ridiculous nonsense anymore.
\_ Ha! As usual not a single real fact. And at
least they print retractions when they make
                              a mistake, unlike Drudge.
\_ Wow. You just argued that Matt Drudge's journalistic
integrity trumps that of the New York Times'. Are you
                        stupid or just a troll?

                           http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/913302/posts
The Times has not endorsed a Republican Pres.
                           candidate for 40+ years.
It's publisher was a very active anti-war protester
                           during Vietnam.
\_ So apparently you don't understand the difference
between having an editorial viewpoint, which is
ethical and reasonable if you state it outright,
and silently shaping your output to promote a
certain viewpoint, which is not. Compare, say,
Fox News to the New York Times. And just to
                              show this isn't a conservative/liberal thing,
the Wall Street Journal presents a consistently
                              conservative editorial viewpoint, but is
ethically on par with the New York Times and
both have vastly more integrity than Fox News.
\_ The NYT does not state outright that they're
left wing and their _news_ stories are
biased in that direction. They silently
shape their viewpoint in every run.
\_ But the NY Slimes maintains it has no
bias; yet they don't limit opinion to the
                                   editorial page. Compare the
audience of Fox News to the nationwide
                                   broadcast news programs:
~3 million to 30+ million for the
networks. And yet Jennings and Rather
                                   maintain they are independent
                                   journalists.
\_ Christ, learn to use an apostrophe'.
                                      http://www.angryflower.com/bobsqu.gif
\_ The very idea that the NYT is neutral and
doesn't slather every story with bias is
                                   painfully obvious. I've subscribed for
years but not because it is neutral in any
way. I understand what I'm reading. Do
you? Are you even a daily reader?

Source 1: I attended a political meeting this morning at which it was reported that Governor Perrys wife has left the Governors Mansion in Austin. The alleged reason was that she found the governor in bed with another man. If true, discussions of gay issues are likely to take a higher profile in Texas in the coming weeks. Source 2: I did not want to say anything until it hit the mainstream press, but I have known about that for more than a week. Why am I not surprised to discover this sort of hypocrisy from the Defense of Marriage homophobe Republican crowd? Also interesting are the rumors regarding Bushs own hypocrisy regarding homosexuality: many sources are talking of his long standing gay relationship with his old college buddy Victor Ashe, the current mayor of Knoxville, Tennessee and a fellow skull and bones frat member at Yale. Other names have also been mentioned - it also looks like Bush was doing some serious flirting with the Canadian prime ministers aide in January, judging from the reports in Torontos Globe and Mail! This is the kind of hypocricy that everyone who has been sleeping for at least since the stolen election needs to be aware of. The whole gay marriage issue, W saying he thinks its appalling, and the dividing of Americans over such a non issue needs to be exposed. W has also been rumored to boink Mayor Ashe and I am not at all surprised. Who cares who you sleep with or have sex with - that is not the issue. The issue is simply that they are HYPOCRITES form the word go and they need to be put in their place. There will be outrage over what happened between concenting adults. Goodhair did with scarce taxpayers funds - calling three special sessions to redistrict the state for DeLay. I consider the Gov a scumbag for using resources to fund a political power grab rather than fund health care or education. While I will not agree with the reason for his demise, but I will enjoy watching it. Lets see, an annomyous poster gives 3 sources, all only numbers of course no namesand posts an outlandish accusation and this is how you whacked out lefties respond? Earth to lefties - an accusation does, especially from some annomyous source on a friggin PUBLIC message board is meaningless. Trust me I have very close ties to the Texas Governor and his past lover. There is a picture of Rick Perry at Brykerwood Vet Clinic outside the exam-1 room. It is a picture of Rick looking very sick on Greg Biehles boat in Port Aransas, TX. Biehle bought the boat with a partner, but Biehle will not divulge the other partners name. I know for a fact that Rick would show up at Biehles clinic almost daily, mostly without his dog Lucy. I know for a fact that Rick used to call Greg daily at the Vet Clinic. I know for a fact that Greg asked Governor Rick Perry to try and get his son into A&M College. I know for a fact that Rick Perry and Greg Biehle will go on separate vacations and call each other daily. I know for a fact that Greg Biehles wife, Karen, found out about Greg having an affair after she turned up with a case of herpes. Just go upstairs at his Clinic and you will see not only the dead animals on his walls but the guns he used to kill them. However, the story is not about a horrible Vet doctor, the story is Gov. Rick Perry has had other lovers besides the Secretary Of State of Texas. Rick and Anita have decided that he will not run for Governor again, and take a job in Washington so Rick and Anita can divorce in private. Well, if this rumor winds up becoming fact then this certainly would be a huge win for the gay community in Texas, who I would think have the most to gain in this, and certainly a major embarrassment for the Republican Party of Texas. At least most of the Democrats in Texas that are gay openly admit that they are. The Republicans tend to stay in the closet and disparage their own kind. I can just hear the morning radio talk shows in the northeast queuing up lines from Full Metal Jacket Texas! Hell, the only thing that comes from Texas is steers and queers and you dont look like youre wearing any horns! I wish that I had recognized the quip earlier myself This will undoubtedly become a classic. So, are there any Perry Puffers out there who have any contrary statements to make about these unbelievable rumors? I have yet to see anything to date, and I have tried and so far all Ive found is people saying that its true. The Texas Governor and the Texas Secretary of State were having a staff meeting in the Governors mansion. Lets see Rick and Anita out together in public reaffirming that defense of the sanctity of marriage ballyhoo that Perry was so adamant about a few months back. Even though Im a die-hard Texas Democrat part of me doesnt want this rumor to be true. I may not like the man or his policies, or what his party has become to represent a bunch of neo-fascists brown shirts, but frankly Im tired of our societys fickle fascination over titillating topics whereas pure violence against those who dont hold your views is okay, etc. Not to mention that lost within all of this is that the man has got a family whose members are innocent bystanders in all of this and if true then this family is going to go through a LOT of stress and hardship in the coming months. Push him out office based upon his policies and record, not on his sexual orientation. Of course he is simply be verifying what Ive stated for a LONG time. The Republican Party is filled with a bunch sanctimonious hypocrites. Governor of Texas when Bush was in office at the time he became President and thus assumed office after the 2000 general election. He subsequently was re-elected in 2002 when he defeated the Tony Sanchez for the office. Governor position is a separately elected office that was formerly held for many years by the right honorable Bob Bullock D deceased. Perry was the Texas Land Commissioner prior to his ascension to the office of the Lt. Governor and his been a bright-eyed Republican yes-man for quite a long time. And the other similarity between Bush and Perry is that they were both former cheerleaders. And now it appears that Bush and Perry have yet another amazing similarity. Just go upstairs at his Clinic and you will see not only the dead animals on his walls but the guns he used to kill them. And dont forget the freezer stocked with the venison of the deer hes killed and the heads of more deer and what not near the stairs in the back. Oh yeah, and not only does he hunt animals, he also beats the crap out of the ones hes supposed to be caring for. Yeah, a scared animal gives him a hard time in the clinic, it might just get a fist to the face. And Christ, dont get me started on one of the dumbass vet techs that used to maybe still does work there. Harrassing animals, choking them, putting dead dogs in cages with live ones that are barking too much, etc. From Australia- I really think an individual may do as they wish in the privacy of their home-and even though the Gov Mansion is State owned, it is conveyed as home to the Govenor during the term of office. What occurs in his personal life should remain in his personal life to work out and not blown over the State/Nation papers. If such speculative publication continues, then in the future the news should publish the breast size and the penis length of all Texans. On Tuesday at 10am, come down to the Governors Mansion and show your support for the mans lifestyle during what must be a very difficult time. Urge him to come out of the closet and not bow to internal party pressure to resign if the rumors are true. It wouldnt make him any less qualified to be Governor than he was before and he, as well as the media, should be made aware that there will be people in Texas who would not condemn him for his sexuality. If the rumors are untrue, then this will give him a chance to deny them in front of the cameras and put the whole situation to rest. During one of the most important months in the nations history on the subject of gay rights, it is vital to send the right message - come down to the Governors Mansion with your its okay to be gay signs and let Governor Perry know that the opinions of his...

A former associate attorney at a prominent Beverly Hills entertainment law firm, Kohn served as associate editor of the Entertainment Law Reporter. Kohn also co-authored with his father the legal treatise, Kohn on Music Licensing, hailed by USA Today as the bible of legal issues in the music world. Book Description For over a hundred years, the New York Times has purported to present straight news and hard facts. But, as Bob Kohn shows with absolute clarity, the founders original vision has been hijacked, and today, instead of straight news, readers are given mere editorial under the pretense of objective journalism. Kohn shows point by point the methods by which the Times mission has been subverted by the present managementroutinely slanting the presentation of the facts in leads, headlines, and placement; So if youre a liberal you should be able to get through it without taking a chainsaw to it. Both conservatives and liberals will learn things they might have been unaware of before, and certainly will never read the NY Times the same way again. Kohn takes the basic tenets of journalism - who, what, when, where, why and how - and applies them to specific and numerous examples of headlines and articles from the Times. In many cases, even without his narrative, it is obvious that these basic principles were ignored. Indeed, he helps the argument along further by imbuing this omissions with sinister motivations. One could initially write this off as the whinings of a right-wing conspiracy, but there are really too many examples, with too much impartial evidentiary support, to trivialize the authors possible agenda. In a best case scenario, if the NYT did indeed commit accidental errors in its practice of journalism, that in itself calls to question the quality of the nations newspaper. As a conservative, I was less angry than saddened that such an eggregious and overwhelming abuse of power has been practiced for the last generation. If you only read one book on bias in the media, read Bob Kohns Journalistic Fraud. Rather than just complain about how the news is slanted, Kohn actually takes you through the process, step-by-step, in the most easily readable style youll ever come across for a book on the media. Conservatives will love how Kohn takes apart the New York Times, the fountainhead of liberal thought, but moderates and even liberals will appreciate the fact that Kohn doesnt do any name-calling. His keen, beautifully-written media analysis will be respected by everyone. He simply takes you though examples drawn from the news pages of the Times, points out both the blatant and subtle techniques the editors use to influence your take on the news, and by letting the facts speak for themselves, he lets you come to your own conclusions. By the time youre done, well, youll never read the New York Times, or any newspaper, the same way again. Ive never had more fun with a book on media bias and Im certain this will go down in the annals as one of the classics in its field. All Customer Reviews Average Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers. As a lawyer, I would like to know why the media are socialist deniers of the Wholecaust written of elsewhere. And more info is needed on why the media dont mention the full accurate phrase National Socialist German Workers Party but exclusively use a hackneyed misleading abbreviation. The media use the word Nazi to cover-up for the monstrous National Socialist German Workers Party, in a vain effort to rehabilitate socialism. And any search of the New York Times or any newspapers or medias search engine will show it. Media bias is given meaning with this book, which is written more like a textbook than an editorial. However, it is never dull reading, as it compares actual headlines, subheads and content of articles from the NY Times and compares them to coverage of the same subject, on the same day, in other media. The differences are startling - so much so in some cases that it seemed the Times wasnt even in the same room with other journalists. While Ive known about the bias for years, and dont even watch network news anymore - I was fascinated by the subtlety with which the Times practices its craft. They understand the inertia of human nature, and exploit the fact that most people just dont have the time to dissect every news story they are exposed to each day. Imagine the sheer effort it takes each to day to twist the news so that it reflects a political or ideological agenda, but do it so well that few people are aware of it. With one example after another, Bob Kohn shows how the New York Times offers lessons on how NOT to practice objective journalism. Journalism was never pure, professional or objective as some would claim or like to believe. Yes, journalism has exposed crimes, practiced freedom of the press, and serviced multiple causes, but having a degree in journalism or owning an independent newspaper does not appear to guarantee adherence to professional principles. The American public needs to accept the fact that no newspaper leaves its editorial biases and interests to the editorial page. The examples of some journalism career paths are revealing in this respect: reporters become columnists, columnists become analysts, newspapers make analysts experts, and each move adds to the writers income and book royalties, and new reporters are smart enough to see what pays best. Yet newspapers claim to be objective or non-ideological in their reporting. As Kohn shows, you cant get past the bias, the distortions in the lead, the misleading headlines, the opinions, the labels ultraconservatives on the right and progressives on the left; The book should be required reading at all journalism schools and should be read by all Americans. Now you can read the New York Times and spot reporters obvious slanting of any news they do not agree with or that does not fit with their agenda. To coin the cutesy phrases Maureen Dowd is so fond of using: Dowdy and Richie Rich along with rotten Apple cannot be relied upon to deliver accurate news pieces - they are so obviously tainted by their liberal make that ULTRA liberal viewpoints that nothing short of their view is worth reporting.

Editorial Reviews About the Author Bill Proctor is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and has worked as a reporter for the New York Daily News. He has written or co-authored more than 70 nonfiction books, including several national bestsellers. Leaders and celebrities he has interviewed or collaborated with include Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Ronald Reagan, Billy Graham, Charles Colson, Art Linkletter, Willard Scott, Pat Boone, and George Gallup, Jr. Proctor is the author of the Broadman & Holman title The Resurrection Report, and also two novels. Book Description The New York Times is the nations recognized newspaper of record. Through its unparalleled status as the nations journalistic bible, and the frequent replication of its views and articles in other media, the Times is literally on our doorstep every day. However, what is not known is that the Times, far from being objective, is subtly promulgating its own comprehensive worldview and value system, which runs counter to the personal beliefs of many Americans. In The Gospel According to the New York Times, author Bill Proctor exposes the Times belief system unveiling the mechanism of Culture Creep, which the Times uses to promote its views. All Customer Reviews Average Customer Review: Write an online review and share your thoughts with other customers. A decision to engage in propaganda often arises from a strong set of beliefs or vested interests. Since the average person today has shallow or non-existent personal philosophies generally developed by cobbling together beliefs based on what gratifies preconceptions one isnt even aware of, true-believers with convictions can often convince non-believers easily. This book can therefore serve as an excellent guide to fostering critical thinking when it comes to modern media, through its examination of the most powerful news organization in the world, the New York Times. Nearly all journalists determine what is important and the angle from the NYT, thus extending its influence to the smallest town or largest cable network. Sheer persistent repetition is able to completely change the thinking and values of a public lacking intellectual foundations. Curious about how the complete inversion of right and wrong could be engineered within a single generation? The author also looks at conflicts of interest, giving examples where organizations the New York TImes had a direct undisclosed financial interest in were at the center of its reporting and editorializing to its benefit; The author identifies the set of fundamentalist beliefs the New York Times promotes; The Sin of Religious Certainty, The Sin of Conservatism, The Sin of Capital Punishment, The Sin of Broken Public Trust, The Second of the Second Amendment, the Sin of Censorship, The Sin of Limiting Abortion. The NYT also defines certain cultural spirits as being positive: globalism, multiculturalism, total sexual freedom, environmentalism, entitlement, scientism and humanism. The book analyzes coverage of stories ranging from the Columbine shooting to election coverage; Those religious leaders who had earlier remarked about the rebirth of religion in America could now be shown as wrong while simultaneously emphasizing how religious certainty was once again a declining minority. The effect of the attack, which reawakened patriotic sentiments and threatened the Times belief system, was now waning. Of course, if you read the polling question, results would actually have to be 100 of the public believe in absolutes. If you think there is no absolute right or wrong, that belief itself is a claim to an absolute truth; But, two days later, USA Today picked up on the NYT priority, incoherent as it is, and ran its own piece on the same subject, echoing the marching orders, as did countless other papers around the country and world. In this way, opinions are remolded in a specific direction without regard to reality. Im a journalist, publisher and Christian, quite concerned about the role of the mass media in the world today. I bought this book hoping for insight into how to respond to the media. Instead, I was dismayed to find a paranoid attack on the Times, which assumes that its leadership, if not entire staff, is consciously promoting an anti-Christian moral code. Proctor endlessly argues his own conclusions, which is ultimately hypocritical, since his words make it clear that he is pushing a conservative agenda and he assumes that anything that disagrees with it is biased. There are seeds of truth about the media throughout the book, which might inspire critical thinking by mature Christians who have substantial media knowledge. He is a cheerleader for those who would swallow simple-minded conclusions, starting with the notion that responsibility for changes in public attitudes over the last few decades must in large part be laid squarely at the feet of the mass media. Proctor fundamentally goes astray in his assumption of intent on the part of the Times. By demonizing the Times, Proctor neglects the reality that human institutions always fall short of the truth. In an eagerness to place blame, he fails to see how the mass media could become a force of evil, in which we all share responsibility, unless people consciously chose to make it one. Proctor shows that he worships free speech and free markets - the mass medias justifications - more than God. The subtitle - How the worlds most powerful news organization shapes your mind and values - barely begins to pay tribute to the books arrogant and often illogical over-simplifications. Bottom line: Ignore it unless you plan to treat it as Proctor correctly, I fear says we should regard the Times: with great skepticism.

Reporter Nicholas Wade wrote last month, the one safe prediction about the far future is that humans will be a lot further along in their evolution. It seems that the truly safe prediction these days is that Times writers will declare their secular faith to be fact and fabricate quotations to support their story lines. Thats what Mike Beidler, a WORLD subscriber in San Diego, found out early this year. Lieutenant Commander Beidler, 32, on his way to Iraq in January, was walking with his family toward the end of Naval Station Pier 2 when the Timess Charlie LeDuff asked him for his general view of war protesters. Beidler recalls stating, Protesters have a right to protest, and our job is to defend those rights. Beidler criticizing Los Angeles protesters but turning his guns at a complacent United States: Its war, Commander Beidler said, and the nation is fat. The journalist then turned to Commander Beidler wifes Christal: Im just numb, she said as she patted down his collar. Beidler was at sea when he discovered how far at sea the Timess reporting was, but he sent off a letter to the editor stating what he had said and arguing that the quotes about national fatness and battery-powered cars were completely fabricated by Mr. LeDuff in order to connect our nations dependence on oil with the current military buildup in the Middle East. LeDuff continued his shameful behavior by attributing words and actions to my wife that were not her own. Not only did she not say she would cry herself to sleep, but she didnt pat down my collar either, which was impossible for her to accomplish with my civilian shirt hidden under my jacket and a duffle bag hanging on my shoulder closest to her. Beidler is carrying bad feelings about me but I remember things very differently. Beidler if he had heard of anyone screaming about battery powered cars, and he said no he hadnt heard anyone screaming about battery powered cars. Next, I dont quote him as saying America is at war or fat, but I rightly characterized our conversation as such. Finally I asked his wife if she had cried that morning, she said no, that she was numb and would probably cry herself to sleep that night. Some personal experience: In general, the military officers Ive known are more honest than the Times reporters Ive encountered. Still, I like to give journalists the benefit of the doubt, so heres one test: See whether the disputed quotations and characterizations fit neatly into a publications agenda. The neater the fit, the more likely the reporter used real people as stage props. LeDuff thinks that he accurately represented his interview with you and your wife, and therefore so do I. If you have another encounter some day with The New York Times, I hope its outcome is more satisfactory to you. Beidler wrote back, I will never again allow a reporter from The New York Times to interview me or a member of my family. There will be no opportunity for another encounter and no chance for your paper to rise above the reputation youve established in my eyes. Post Reply Private Reply To 1 View Replies To: Ragtime Cowgirl See whether the disputed quotations and characterizations fit neatly into a publications agenda. The neater the fit, the more likely the reporter used real people as stage props. Im reading Journalistic Fraud by Bob Kohn - about the NYTimes and their agenda, which has found its way into news stories. Ive known of their bias, both on the Editorial pages, AND in their regular news, but the book is an eye opener. This story is an example of how far the Times has come since it was run by its original publisher, and the integrity he tried to instill. Post Reply Private Reply To 1 View Replies To: Ragtime Cowgirl What is the surprise? Most reporters have always made it all up out of slovinliness, laziness and a need to fit the event to their preconceptions. It is just that we are getting better at catching them at it thanks to the Internet. Have you ever been involved in any incident involving the media, no matter how minor or non political, where what was reported bore the slightest resemblance to what you saw actually take place? A wedding, a Church picnic, a school rummage or bake sale, a car wreck, a bar fight, where they got any of it right? He started his journalism career at age 29, after earning a bachelors degree at the University of Michigan and a masters degree in journalism at the University of California, Berkeley. Before he joined the Times in 1995, LeDuff worked as a school teacher and carpenter in Michigan and at a cannery in Alaska. He also worked as a baker in Denmark and as a bartender in Michigan, New York and Australia. Part Native American, LeDuff was one of several reporters who worked on the New York Times series, How Race is Lived in America. He spent one month working at a pork slaughterhouse in North Carolina, where the division of labor was often decided by race. That was one of the things I wanted if I was to work on the New York Times race series. The editor wanted me to look somewhere in the southern United States because thats sort of where a lot of things started in this country. I went to Tennessee, Mississippi, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, six or seven states. I was seeing about cattle plants in the Plains even though it wasnt the South. I got to this town and there were a lot of Natives there and that was good. Race would make it about one-third white, one-third black, one-third red. At the courthouse there, theres a plaque that lists the fallen vets of World War I. Whites on top, Indian in the middle, and colored on the bottom in the color red. Charlie LeDuff: I know what youre saying, but theres nothing to be suspicious of. It was like, if youve got a social security card, youve got an ID, you fill out an application, give them $20 and take the drug test and thats it. Im not saying I know everything about that plant, but they kept trying to get me some box job and I said no, I want to kill. Then the hiring manager says, Oh no no no, you want to start at the top? Youre working for a powerful organization and we get to talk about it? I was thinking, if I die or go on to do something else totally outta here, I left something. When I was talking to the people who I was profiling, my characters, all I can offer you man, is your say. And our grandchildren are gonna know how we lived, who we are right now, what we were thinking, what we were feeling. Sometimes he goes home and sees a pretty bird in his yard and says Wow, thats a pretty bird. Whenever I talk to students, maybe someone accuses me, us journalists, of being superficial. Charlie LeDuff: People-wise, what surprised me the most was how cut to the bone they were to the job. People living by the hour, living three hours for the next 15-minute break and then three hours for the next 15-minute break. One thing that surprised me was that one day there was a crescent moon and it was probably venus or mars. Because I had something else to do, a nice-paying job, I stopped to look at it. The fact that there were that many Mexicans in the place surprised me. For one, it reaffirmed my belief in God bless the United States of America because we do tend to work it out as miserable as it is. Ive been to almost every state in the union, but Ive never studied here in the South. Part of my people are from Louisiana and how much I love southern culture. White people and black people down there are not abstracts like they would be in a northern city when the only cop they see is a white guy driving in a cruiser. I come from the city Detroit, but I didnt know how much crack ravaged this country is. Charlie LeDuff: I was told that a lot of black people were angry when the piece came out in this sense - what the fuck took people so long? People respected what I did because, hey man, I want to know enough. We can dispense with the opening round of questions: Do your hands hurt, sir? I find that if youre coming to people, youre not a vulture like some reporters who circle around and wait for the opening to get in there.

Berke, a homosexual, was speaking at an April 12, 2000, reception sponsored by the National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association NLGJA. The story and Berkes quotation received wide circulation in conservative circles but the original article was never posted on the Web. LaBarberathen publisher of Lambda Report a conservative newsletter that monitored the gay movement and currently editor of the Culture & Family Report attended the meeting where Berke made the comment. Recently, LaBarbera received an e-mail from a third party that contained comments from an NLGJA official disparaging the story. Since Ive been there theres been a dramatic shift: I remember coming and wondering if there were any gay reporters there or whatever. Now its like, there are times when you look at the front-page meeting and literally three-quarters of the people deciding whats on the front page are not-so-closeted homosexuals. Berke was one of the speakers at the NLGJAs View from the Top reception, held at the National Press Club April 12. My instincts tell me that, in addition to the other issues concerning Blair, homosexual jealousy may well have played a part in this episode. If litigation arises, I would expect that to come out so to speak. Did Zuza the gal pal, spend more social time with Blair than Boyd or another NYT wheel was pleased with? The viciousness of the NYT attack on Blair goes way beyond what we saw with Barnicle, Glass, etal. Thats why he reads it every morning, and why hes written a book lambasting it. In The Gospel According to the New York Times, Proctor contends that the paper blurs the lines that should divide straight news from editorial content. In doing so, the Times tips its hand and reveals its liberal agenda, one supportive of homosexuality and abortion , and critical of Christianity, Republicanism, gun control, and capital punishment, among other issues. Proctor, who was a reporter himself at the New York Daily News in the 70s, acknowledges that total journalistic objectivity is never possible. And in an interview with the Bulletin, he allowed that crossing the line between news and editorial is a growing trend in many papers. He chose to focus on the Times, he said, because of the enormous influence that stems from being at the top of the heap. Although Proctor says that to some extent the Times is simply reporting on what is happening in society, he contends that it is also contributing to shaping our views. He cites active and positive coverage of homosexuality , which he believes has swayed popular opinion in favor of gays and lesbians. He says he was surprised to see the active hostility that surfaced in inflammatory language describing members of conservative religious groups. The Gospel According to the New York Times: How the Worlds Most Powerful News Organization Shapes Your Mind and Values Bill Proctor is a graduate of Harvard College and Harvard Law School, and has worked as a reporter for the New York Daily News. He has written or co-authored more than 70 nonfiction books, including several national bestsellers. In a third year-long search, he makes a more interesting argument about what he calls the use of loaded language. Thus the term anti-abortion appears in 169 articles, while pro-abortion appears only fourteen times. The same is true of the term religious right, which appears frequently, and of the term religious left, which is virtually non-existent. Unfortunately, such legitimate complaints are obscured by Proctors rhetoric and insistence on attributing Machiavellian motives to the Times . He condemns the Times for allowing NBC and The Wall Street Journal to be first with the story of Juanita Broaddricks rape allegations against President Clinton. A 1998 story about Mayor Rudolph Giulianis support for a domestic partners bill in New York, with the headline, gay groups rejoice in mayors move as critics deplore it, was heavily weighted toward the gay position and revealed an almost total absence of the deploring that was promised in the headline. Newsweek Exposes New York Times Leftist Bias This would be like Tom Daschle accusing Al Gore of being a whiner, but Newsweek magazine is pointing out the growing left-wing bias at the New York Times. American Voters Enrage the New York Times For all those who voted Republican in Tuesdays elections, you should know that the New York Times is terribly upset at you. In an item headlined Left-wing jihad, the Washington Times today reported: The New York Times editorial page, denouncing mainstream conservatives as extremists, yesterday called on Senate Democrats to use whatever means necessary to maintain control of the federal judiciary. The newspaper, whose editorials often are far to the left of even most Democrats, suggested that it represents the views of centrists against extremists and racists, including President Bush. Most big-city newspapers gleefully allow themselves to be organs of the DNC, endorsing liberal political candidates and pushing the socialist welfare state every chance they get. These papers invariably take the side of the Democrats in their culture war against traditional America and its families. This attitude permeates the hiring process - - newspapers based in the countrys big parasite nests cities are not interested in hiring white, traditional American family men who tend to be Republican and conservative. And thats what you see in the newsrooms and read on the editorial page.

Thanks to a sharp-eyed Ann Coulter, one Greg Packer has been outed as the medias designated man in the street - a role Mr. His latest assignment for the Times was to be the average man in the street in line waiting to buy Mrs. Wrote Coulter, author of the forthcoming blockbuster Treason: Another average individual eager to get Hillarys book was Greg Packer, who was the centerpiece of the New York Times man on the street interview about Hillary-mania. After being first in line for an autographed book at the Fifth Avenue Barnes & Noble, Packer gushed to the Times: Im a big fan of Hillary and Bills. It was easy, Coulter noted for the Times to spell Packers name right because he is apparently the entire medias designated man on the street for all articles ever written. He has appeared in news stories more than 100 times as a random member of the public. Packer was quoted on his reaction to military strikes against Iraq; Patricks Day Parade, the Thanksgiving Day Parade and the Veterans Day Parade. He was quoted at not one - but two - New Years Eve celebrations at Times Square. He was quoted at the opening of a new Star Wars movie, at the opening of an H&M clothing store on Fifth Avenue and at the opening of the viewing stand at Ground Zero. He has been quoted at Yankees games, Mets games, Jets games - even getting tickets for the Brooklyn Cyclones. He was quoted at a Clinton fund-raiser at Alec Baldwins house in the Hamptons and the popes visit to Giants stadium. If the Times and the rest of the New York media dont pay this guy, hes getting short changed. They tell him where to show up, interview him and a check is in the mail Oh really. My Dad must be rolling in his grave over the current version of the New York Times. It used to be the paper of record and my Dad read it from front page to last page on the LIRR, commuting into Manhatten. Or the Washington Times, which I think is the best newspaper out there.
